My future plans

Hi, our 13' 1981 Scamp will mostly be used on 2 day trips AND as our (original) fridge is not working anyway, I am planning on removing the fridge and installing a window AC unit in that space. I figure it's already vented there anyway, as I'm reluctant to cut into existing wall. My 2 cents...Thanks!

Great AC ideas!—but scary for newbies

Greetings, all!  We’re just about to order a 13 Scamp, and we’re complete camper newbies. We’ve got it mostly figured out except the AC; I’ve read so many posts about the standard ceiling unit being too noisy and too powerful for the little 13, and I really want to find an alternative to the big standard 13,500 BTU Dometic.  We’d much rather have something with a smaller profile and ideally able to be powered by a smaller generator in a pinch.  We plan on traveling extensively to the southwest, so we know AC will be a must!

We could have it blocked for AC and get a different unit installed by someone else, but it of course wouldn’t be under Scamp warranty.  Your discussion here provides what seems to be a more energy-efficient and cost-effective solution; I’m extremely intrigued!  But it also makes us super nervous to think of poking holes in our brand new Scamp next year.  :-)

Do you more experienced folks have a recommendation on which way to go?  We’re not terribly handy, although we could almost certainly find someone here to do the work needed.  What would the closet AC work do to our Scamp warranty?  I just REALLY want to find an alternative...  Thanks for your guidance!
