The only negative of eliminating the mouse hole that I can think of is that the wire is much more stealable. With the wire just plugging into the outside of the trailer it's "just unplug it and go"! The attached pictures show my idea of how to make that wire harder to steal. It is just a hasp mounted on spacers to give clearance for the wire. The hasp could be mounted directly to the bumper but that would mean drilling seven holes in the steel bumper. By mounting the hasp on a piece of aluminum angle I could drill the seven holes for the hasp in softer aluminum using my drill press. Then I only had to drill two holes in the bumper.
