Hi All,
Our Scamp 13 is on order and I'm wondering about upgrading to dual propane tanks. I do plan on doing a fair amount of cold weather boondocking in the early spring and late fall through November in our home state of WI.
I know this is a loaded question but how much propane does the furnace use when the temperatures drop below freezing ? Should I add that second propane tank or just carry around a spare ?
Thanks Wink
It might come down to the additional tongue weight, and wether that's a potential problem. If not, might as well. The tongue weight on our 13' is ~210 pounds with one full propane tank and a light-weight lithium battery, so I'd say it was about 240 pounds with a regular battery. We've only used the propane heater in mild weather, so no help there.
If you are going to "carry around" a second tank, it is much safer to use duel tank setup.

I do a fair amount of fall and winter boondocking. You don't want to be outside in the middle of the night at 10F. trying to swap LP tanks. (Ask me how I know.) Also like Bill mentioned, if you are dealing with a second tank it needs to have a home. The best place in next to your other tank. If you DIY it later you will have to buy a tank tray, double tank regulator, extra tank hose, tank hose adaptor and a longer hose from the regulator to the shell connector. Lots of time lost researching and running down the LP parts. I recommend just ordering the second tank set up.

i recommend the dual tanks, i have them. i also have that Auto-Switcher that Scamp sells, basically if a tank runs out in the middle of the night it auto switches to the other tank without you having to do anything. wonderful contraption.

Thanks all for your responses. Everything you said made perfect sense. I'm adding the dual tank option.
