Scamp 13' Heater vent blocked

New 2013 Scamp owner here.  Trying to get everything working.  I have not been able to get the heater to stay lit.  Comes on 3 times, goes off three times.  I noticed a mud wasp next was blocking the bottom vent on the back of the trailer.  I cleaned it out best I could but I am sure much of it just fell out of site.  I put a vacuum tube in and got some out but there is probably a lot left.  After that cleaning the heater worked!

My question is how to I get the rest out?  If I remove the propane line and the mounting screws in the front of the unit can I pull it out and clean or is it attached in back to the vents? Is this a do it yourself job or do I need an heater expert to take over?

Done it

It can be removed from the inside. On my other campers the vents to the outside are  slip fit on to the heater tubes. But I believe there is one Phillips screw in the center of the exhaust vent, then the screws and wires and Propane line . It can be done by mortals with caution. Then the housing to the blower can be removed for cleaning if needed.   We always use the available vent screens now to avoid the same . Is a common thing to happen.  they attach with springs to the center of the cup like screens

Fixed

Thanks for the info. I pulled it out and found this.  Cleaned it out, put it back and it works great.

Mud wasps in air conditioner fan

It is interesting that you found "mud wasps" in your heater vent and solved the problem. I imagine that Scamp owners have found them in a number of places.  Last September, the fan and AC would not work in our 16-ft Scamp Deluxe. A RV friend and I took the AC apart and pulled the fan out.  I went to RV dealers and tried to find a replacement fan.  It was going to take a long time to get a replacement.  So, we took the fan motor apart and found it was full of mud from mud wasps.  We cleaned it out, put it together, and the fan and AC works great.  FYI:  Wikipedia lists three airplane crashes that were attributed to mud wasps plugging air speed indicators and other parts!

Buzzards

Those little buzzards mess alot of equipment up. The mud dauber screens are the secret or plug with something. all three of our campers have had to remove the furnace for the same until We found the screens. They will also build in the water heater if possible Good job on finding and fixing it
