Interior Window Trim - 1975

I recently acquired a 1975 Scamp 13. The side windows may have been replaced at some point although they're still quite old. They fit well on the exterior, we have no leaks, and the cranks work perfectly, however the frame is thick, leaving about a 1" gap between the interior wall of the Scamp and the edge of the window frame. There are old screw holes in the liner around the window frame but I'm not sure if those were from a previous window or something else. I like the windows and don't want to change them but I'd like to do something to make the edges of the frame look better on the interior and to cover up those screw holes. Does anyone have any ideas?

Wooden window frame

I had this problem in my 1966 panel truck, an after market window. I built a wooden frame around. Good luck.
