Well it is definitely going to be quite a journey on this scamp restoration , after removing the interior I am coming to the conclusion that I will need to remove the rear piece of flooring from the dinette area . I know the gray water holding tank has to be removed first has anyone ever had to do this before and is it possible to do with the body still on ?
Steve
It can be replaced with the body on or do what we call a "frame off restoration." Not an expensive job, most use marine plywood and undercoat after replaced but it definitely is not one of the more fun jobs. If your frame needs reconditioning from rust, etc. you might want to consider a frame off(much easier to complete frame work and subfloor replacement). You do need to glass the new sub floor to the sides of the body once replaced.

The rear dance floor can be replaced in one piece without taking out your counters. You do have to take out your water tank, pump and gray water tank. If you have a solid plexiglass rear window it really helps if you take that out for a number of reasons. Send me a PM with your contact info. and I will talk you through it. I have done about a half dozen of them.

I just bought a 1983 16' Scamp, and in investigating the water system found significant rot under the water tank. I removed the tank and pump, and ended up pulling out both dinette sections and cut out the rotted floor, all the way across the back about 20" deep (to the transverse frame member) with a tab on the right side going almost to the counter. The neigbor watching me was having fun seeing my legs sticking down like a flintstone car! I used an angle grinder to remove the glass tabs holding the old floor in, and that went faster and easier than I thought. Was intiially afraid of grinding through the skin, but that turned out to be easy to avoid. Not totally finished, but the new piece is fitted. Just need to pull it out one more time to hit the bottom side with KillZ. Wish I had looked up this thread sooner!

eddie i need your zip code to send you the hinges check your messages thanks darren
The under side of the floor and edges need to be coated with resin. I would not use Killz first you may not get a good bond to the wood. Sounds like it may be too late but you should have saved the lower tabbing lip as a guide and to hold the lower resin in place. Also don't use cloth to glass the floor to the shell. Cut strips of mat, it conforms better to the shell. Block up the shell on the frame rails to get a gap above the frame rails before glassing in the new floor. Also if you have the tools try to use a lap joint between the and old floor. I use 5/8" exterior plywood for the floors, I did find one S-19 that had 3/4" rear deck. A 4-4.5" grinder with a twisted wire brush works best to clean the glass on your new bond area above the floor.
Good luck
