Problem with door handle /lock 13 foot Scamp

I have a problem with the exterior handle/lock. The screw above the door handle was loose and when I tried to tighten it it just came out and won't stay in.  Any recommendations? I am planning to go camping in a few days.  Thanks

Coat the screw threads with

Coat the screw threads with wood glue and put it back in the hole.  Don't play with it until it's good and dry, or at all.

Glue in a wood match stick 

Drill out the hole and glue in a wood match stick  or two, or better yet a wood dowel, and re drill the hole after the glue has dried.
