We're thinking about replacing the cushions and foam topper with a mattress. Considering the 8" or 10" spa sensations @ Wally. The current cushions are approx 4" foam and we have a 2" topper, so the 8" should work. Has anyone put a similar permanent mattress and would the 10" be necessary or the 8" be fine?

Permanent Mattress
We did decide to go with the 8" Spa Sensations mattress and after putting it in today the 10" would have been too much for the smaller trailers.
It will take about 24-48 hours to completely form, but it looks like it will be a wonderful change over the cushions with the foam topper.
Can't wait to try this marshmallow out in Quartzsite next week!!

Do these mattresses come in folded in a box or rolled? Some time back, I was looking for toppers and it seemed they had mattressed in boxes.

What size did you get? Twin? Full?
The 17 Escape rear bed is 75x54 which is exact measurement for the Full size, no trimming necessary. Scamp beds would require some trimming work to fit, especially due to the rounded shell in the back of the trailer.

We recently bought a 1995 16' Scamp that had nothing in it except a fiberglass closet by the door and a plywood platform in the back for a permanent bed. (The previous owner built the platform, hoping to complete the re-do, but then decided to sell. From what I can tell, the trailer was sold by Scamp as a shell, so it *never* had anything in it.)
We're probably a month or two away from finishing the bed area (um, maybe wishful thinking?) and I've heard that these types of mattresses can be cut--either with a bread knife or an electric knife. Glad to hear your comments about the 8" mattress being a good size for a small trailer. :-)

yes, we trimmed our mattress pad with a electric knife. A black felt tipped marker works great for the line.

We cut a memory foam topper for the cushions so it fit the rear curved ends.
Like Flyboy's suggestion we used a marker and then used a fresh blade in a hobby knife. Cut smoothly.
Our big discovery was when we pulled our Scamp out of the pole barn and readied for our 2 month+ trip was that the memory foam had frozen and was solid like a block of Styrofoam.
Not a big issue as we hoteled for the first 3 nights heading south out of Michigan as we were still in the hard freeze (20s) zone as we headed south and the water system was winterized.

What kind of "memory foam" do you get? I see there are about 100 different kinds, some have gel, some have multiple layers. Do you just get the straight memory foam? I would think you couldn't trim the gel foam.
Not sure what we have other than just saying memory foam, no gel. Easy to trim and we love it.
