New seal

I just put it on my Scamp 19 and it is the best thing Scamp has ever done.... I will put up a post shortly on the 19 with how it went down and pic. The adhesive is fantastic, but you can make no errors when you stick it.

Scamp door seal

I had it done at the factory, great addition. The old foam was a joke. It took almost a year for it to settle in and be closed by one hand. It seals extremely well and so worth it.

Hinge problem with new door seal

I've installed the new door seal, as well as the latch shim. However, having major problem with the hinges - esp. lower. Door seal adds enough mass to the opening along that edge of the door, that the hinge stresses the fiberglass where the hinge attaches to the Scamp body. Did I do something wrong?

Seal

Hey Pat,

I didn't have this issue when I put the new seal on our 97 19 Scamp, but didn't need to shim the latch either, so might be a bit different.

You could try the old bicycle inner tube gasket under the hinge bases on the trailer. Maybe a couple of layers. Take an old inner tube and put the hinge on it and cut out a gasket. Helps prevent water intrusion at the hinges as well.

Thanks Greg - I may do that.

Door seal

The factory replaced my door seal and the tech offered up a thick gasket to place between the lock mechanism and the door striker. Worked great!

New door seal

I just installed my new seal.  My weapon of choice for removing the old glue turned out to be a 1/2" wood chisel, wielded with the beveled side down.  You have to be careful of the angle,  but removed 90% of the old stickum in about a half hour.

My door would close, with effort, when I was done.  I shimmed the latch about 1/16", partly to make it easier to close, and partly because I feared that the strong pull in the middle would cause the top and bottom of the door to warp outwards.

It's a vast improvement, and with my first Colorado cold weather trip starting tomorrow, I'm glad I did it.
