We just ordered a 13 for delivery in Aug. We will be towing with 2013 Subaru Outback, tow limit 2700 lbs and 200 lb toung weight limit. Subaru says yes for brakes. What do all think? I have used a time dalayed controler in the past but Scamp recomends more expensive proportional type. What do think about this?
Also, do you think that I could consider a 16? weight seems possible but toung weight likely to be higher. Of coarse size but delivery is much better for the 16. I am ready for retirement fun!

Most Outback owners are comfortable towing a S-13, you cat get the tongue weight to about 200lbs or less very eaisly. A few Outback owners are pulling S-16s but most have confided they are pushing the limits. I towed a S-13 Front bath with my 2011 CVT Outback and it was a great tow. (Flatland towing) I did tow S-16 which was stripped down and empty and you could tell the difference it also cost me about 2 mpg. I bought a S-16 SD with hopes of towing it with the Outback and I could only get the tongue weight down to 240lbs. with an empty trailer and single tank and I stuck to towing it with my Frontier. An S-16 SD with dual tanks the tongue weight is about 290 lbs.

e-trailer did our installation free of charge for the install. They video it for on line installation so no charge for them work to put on the hitch. I love the brake controller too! The electric brakes on the trailer work very well.

We just went through this a week ago. We ended up getting the Scamp recommended brakes/controller installed in our Jeep. It was sort of a PIA to find someone to do it but a Jeep dealer who does a lot of RV and towable work helepd out. Total cost 500$. Probably could be done for less but our Jeep is new and we were concerned about warranty issues.
I have surge brakes on mine , with free wheeling backup brakes. Love them.
