Hi -
I'm new to the forum and new to the concept of possibly purchasing a new 13' Scamp trailer. I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport that will need a trailer hitch, but otherwise i'm hoping it can handle the tow. I am not planning any major cross-country trips, at least not yet. I'm thinking of weekend getaways around the Northeast. I am looking for input/thoughts/points of view/stories to help me make up my mind one way or the other, because I'm afraid that once I have it I won't end up using it as much as i think I will. I have a dog as well, who will do well in the trailer but then has to be leashed outside, so that is a concern as well, as he is used to running free in the yard.

I have seen a number of Scamp 13's that are pulled with a Jeep Wrangler over the years. We have several current SOI members who are using Jeep Wranglers. Having had a 97 Jeep Wrangler myself when I first got to AZ I have to say it was one of my favorite vehicles.
Most everyone has dogs that travel with them in the Molded Fiberglass community so I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback on that area. A 13 Scamp is perfect for Weekends and we even did half the country with our 2 kids when they were younger in our 13 Scamp. Just your dog and yourself would seem like a private Condo compared to the four of us on the road for a month every summer.

Thank you, Greg! The folks on here do seem to be a very friendly group, and if I take the plunge then I hope to meet some fellow Scamp owners during my travels.
Believe it or not, the first Scamp that I ever saw came it with our snowbird neighbors in AZ being pulled by a Pinto wagon. I said "You pulled the trailer with the Pinto? and she said "Yes, we didn't have any problems." (I wouldn't recommend it though.) They were a nice older couple that traveled with a small dog. We don't have a fiberglass trailer at this time but have RVed for over 30 years now with various RVs, right now, a pop-up. We have always had a dog, or two, or a cat and a dog. If physically possible for dog and owner, I suggest leash training so that you both can get out around the camping area and enjoy it. That will burn off some of the energy that your dog has so that it will be ready to take a break when at the campsite, hopefully. A dog that is less than a couple years old generally has unlimited energy but most others can settle down. Also, if your dog likes "chews", those can be helpful to take along. Is your dog used to riding in the Jeep? A lot of times, just the ride wears them out with all the excitement. So, basically, think "wear the dog out". Some parks have an area for dogs to run but not that many.

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler 4 door and I bought a Scamp 16'. This Jeep pulls that camper with no problems at all. You may want to also look at the 16's as well. Give youself a little more room even if it's only for storage. I pulled my camper down to Texas,across to Georgia, then back to Pa. It's a great trailer for the Jeep.

I have a Jeep Cherokee that pulls the 13 Scamp just great and have also known numerous owners of Wranglers that also pull a 13 Scamp.
As for the dog I don't like having a dog on a leash all the time so here is my solution. Lily is a roughly an 11 inch Poodle and isn't a climber, so the 2 foot high collapsible dog fences have worked great for her. They come with 8 panels. I purchased 3 fences and then proceeded to separate them into 2, 4, and 6 panels. That way I can make any configuration of a yard underneath the awning and out into the open spaces. If you have larger dogs just get the taller fences. I know several people who purchased 4 foot high fences for their dog/dogs.

Welcome to the Forum.
As others have said, there would be NO problem with a Jeep / 13' Scamp combo. Zero.
DO consider attending a gathering in your area in addition to your other adventures. It is a way to put a face to an online person, and in general to meet and camp with a fine bunch of foks.

(You may find this hard to believe, but it's true!) We pulled our 13' Scamp (10,000 miles or so) behind a VW "Squareback": it had a 65hp air-cooled rear engine. (This was in the in the 70's.) One trip took us--a family of four--over the Rocky Mountains, from Seattle to Indiannapolis and return.
I have been helping my buddy out in New Mexico put his recently purchased Scamp together. Had to do a "make do" on the AC, add some things, etc. It is the very basic model, didn't have much of anything in it. so, after adding Everything he could think of , he goes on two expeditions to the mountains, comes back and and says he isn't gonna keep it, needs a bigger one. so I bought it right then!I will be picking up in a few weeks. will provide photos when I get it. I have RV'ed in everything from a pop up to a fifth wheel (for five years) to a 35 ' Holiday Rambler class A motor home. time to get back to something I can actually use! More to come. Philip
Sounds like a super combo!
We'vwe been towing our Aliner with a Jeep for years and will be towing our new Scamp with one too. We did have the brake controller installed. The Jeep is more than capable of towing a 13'er. It is one of the reasons we went with a 13' Scamp.
