My door doesn't fit its opening

Hi Folks,

I have a 1998 13 foot  Scamp.  The door no longer fits its opening.  I have new hinges on order.  I don't sww signs of much settling.  The fiberglass is folding to the frame.  The lower front corner of the door is proud my about an inch and the lower rear corner is proud by about 1/2 inch.  I have added shims under the brass ferules in the hinges, now the the latch is more centered on the striking plate.  I will install the new hinges before I make any rash decisions.

I have made radius gauges that fit the body contour just on each side of the lower door.  The gauge rest against the bottom side of the aluminum belly trim. When I overlay one gauge on to of the other,I see that the radii very a lot.  This tells me that the door needs some twit in it.  If the new hinges don't greatly improve the fit up, I will tackle reshaping the door.  The gauges will be incorporated into the jig that holds the door in correct shape while the inner skin is being laid up.

So, the Quest is. Am I heading in the right direction?  Yes, I do have a new Scamp on order.  Just trying to improve 1998.

Is the hinge side of the door

Is the hinge side of the door opening (on the SCAMP body) secure?  I just had to add a screw and a bolt, as the body was flapping out...which allowed the door to sag.

Door Flapping?

I'm not sure that I understand the question.  The hinge screws are rusted tight on the trailer side of the opening and at least 2 are rusted on the door itself.  The hinges are not moving, each half is secure.  I cannot detect any flexing of the camper body when the door is being closed.  I will install new hinges before I go any farther on the door project.  I have temporarily replaced the brass ferrules with oversized nylon ones to raise the door.

I have located another a 13 foot Scamp owner about 2 hours from us.  He has agreed to let us look at his Scamp.  Maybe Lilly and I can further our Scamp education on Saturday. I'm taking the door opening templates with me. ( Hope his 13 has the larger bed.)

Thank you for the post.
