Newb question: How does cable at a park work? I won't have a converter box or anything of that nature, just a TV. So, is it really cable or just a larger antenna fed through a coax cable?
We are looking at replacing our seemingly broken antenna (rotation handle just spins?) and possibly adding a cable outlet and I have no idea why.
Hi Keith, you do not need a converter box to receive park cable TV. you just plug it in to your TV and you get the channels the park is offering thru their provider. Before I added the external connector, I just fed the cable in thru the side window screen. as well, since I do not have cable at home, and wanted to test my new connection before I buttoned everything up behind the walls, I connected a portable over air HDTV antenna to the new external connection. I was happy to see it then scanned and found all 19 local over air channels available to me at home. So that means, not only can I use it in a park for CATV, I can use it while bookdocking with my over air HD antennae which is portable rather than roof mounted.
I know that feeling, park bandwidth does not typically support all the users, especially if the weather forces everyone indoors. I did stay at a park last year that had just upgraded to high speed fiber optics..it was awesome, could even stream live sports from ESPN.com with no buffering. unfortunately they said it was too expensive and they would probably not continue it.
At Scamp Camp SW I decided to see at 8:30 at night if Netflix could stream a movie over the campground Wifi. My movie streamed beautifully with no interruptions. I found out the next day that it knocked everyone else offline.... Apparently, the Netflix arrangement with ISP's that their bandwidth must be given priority is true. I enjoyed my movie.
The CATV at a park will usually only work if your TV in your trailer has a digital cable ready tuner. Some do, some don't. If not you will need a converter.

We could just take out the RV antenna and use a portable as needed and only have one outlet on the inside. Hmm.
Honestly, I'm more worried about internet access anyway!
