Manual Pump Quit Working on New 2020 Scamp 13'

The manual water pump on our 2020 Scamp quit working after a couple of weeks. My wife was pumping some water from the full tank to the sink and it suddenly quit pumping.

She said it felt like it just lost all pressure.

Are there a lot of problems with these? Is the best thing to do remove the pump and test it with a proper sized line in a bucket of water?

Thanks for any help.

Manual Pumps

The two black plastic nuts, one where the pump handle goes into the housing, the other at the base of the faucet are packing nuts. If they become loose the pump can lose its prime and or be very difficult to pick up its prime. Try tightening the nuts but remember they are plastic! Tighten just enough to get things working. Good luck!

Thank You!

Thanks a million. The faucet nut was tight but the handle nut was very loose. I snugged it up. The tank is empty right now but I will go test it with a couple of gallons of water and see if it works again.

Will Pump Water, But Now It Leaks At The Pump Handle

I snugged the handle nut down and put water in the fresh water tank for a test. Water does pump out, but there is a big leak around the handle packing nut. Reading through the maintenance problems others have encountered, I see that Scamp suggests using teflon tape around the nut. I need to go buy some and try that. It would be so much simpler if that had been done at the factory!

Teflon Tape Did Not Help

No improvement with plumber's tape. I have the pump out of the trailer now. It needs to be repaired or replaced. Do I call Scamp Warranty or the pump manufacturer?

Thread tape??

That will not help a packing nut. I'm not sure what you are trying to do, pictures would help. You may need something like this on some applications or "O" rings in others. (Or a new pump. $30?)

Thread Tape

I found several other threads in this section about a leak at the point where the handle enters the pump body. One person said Scamp told him to use teflon tape. One other guy said it worked for him. I am not a plumber so I am going with their advice.

I e-mailed Scamp about it to see where they want me to send the pump. Obviously, I could just order a new one. But the one I have was new this year and has only been used a couple of times. It seems to me that Scamp or the pump manufacturer should repair or replace it. Let's see what they say.
