Just Pilot Light on Water Heater

SOI Member Joe Z gave me a tip that you can just run your pilot light on your water heater; don't turn it to "on," just leave it set on "Pilot," and you'll have plenty of hot water for dishes, etc.  In the morning he told me you'll have plenty of hot water for two showers.

Of course, I was incredulous and had to test this at the Quartzsite gathering since I was there for almost a week.  I only ran the "Pilot light" all week and had an abundance of hot water for dish washing, etc.  When I took a shower in the morning the hot water was excellent and lasted completely through the shower.  What an econonomical tip for saving on Propane when off the grid or on the grid if your hot water heater runs propane only.

Anyone else have any experience with this method??

Hi Greg..... Glad you liked

Hi Greg..... Glad you liked the tip. Normally to speed things up if i need a shower within an hour my first night out i will run the HWH full force for the first cycle then turn it to pilot for any remaining days and like you say always plenty of hot water for showers etc.been doing it for years now and that little pilot light uses very little propane

My last trailer which had the pilot light got old and needed a new one so i bought one of those fancy press the button and no pilot light.... I was sorry because i always had to run full flame in the morning or anytime i needed hot water. Luckily my new trailer has a pilot light.
