Introduction

I have just joined the Scamp Owners Forum. I am going to take a moment to introduce myself, then I have some questions that I will post in a separate thread.

I grew up camping in a pop-up trailer. My wife grew up camping in a hard sided travel trailer. After we married, we borrowed an old 30 foot Class A RV, off and on, that my parents owned over a period of about 10 years. After they sold their RV, we did not camp for a while. Finally, in 2007, we decided we missed camping so we bought a 32 foot Class C RV. We have been camping in it ever since. While the Class C RV is great for destination camping (e.g. Disneyworld or Yellowstone National Park), my wife wants something small for touring. If we are going to be covering a lot of miles, and only staying in one place for a night or two, she wants to be more mobile. Thus, we are looking at ultra small, light weight travel trailers. Right now, Scamp is at the top of my list. We are going to be towing it with a 4 cylinder Subaru Forester, so light is paramount. (A touch of irony, the Subaru is the car I tow behind my Class C, so it will be a towed and a tow vehicle.)

That is about it for us. I will start another thread to post the questions I have about Scamp trailers.

A 13 is your likely choice.

A 13 is your likely choice. Many nice options are available. I would never consider a trailer without a shower/potty. The larger fridge is also a good idea, NOT a ice box. Do not get the deluxe with all the wood, it may exceed your towing weights. You also will not need electric brakes or a anti sway device on a 13. We own a 16 with ALL the options and we had to get a anti sway hitch. We also have electric brakes, standard on all 16's and the 19 5th wheel.

13 foot for sure

I should have stated that we are looking at the 13 foot trailer. And, we had already discarded the idea of the deluxe with all of the wood trim.

I appreciate all of your suggestions. They are good ones.

We definitely want a potty, and NOT the porta-potty! But we are undecided on the shower.

I am glad you mentioned a larger refrigerator, since they don't mention that as an option. I am glad to know it is available. We want the largest that will fit in the trailer.

The only concern that I have with your suggestions is that my Subaru owner's manual says electric brakes are required for any trailer over 1,000 pounds. We know we will be towing it in the Rocky Mountains in the next couple of years, and I am afraid to disregard Subaru's recommendation.

Towing with a Subaru

Hi, Bobbo!  Welcome to the Scamp forum!  I have a 13' Scamp that I can easily tow with my Subaru Outback.  I believe my Outback's towing capacity is a little less than your Forester's; you should have no problem at all.  I had electric brakes installed (after-market) and braking's a breeze.  Definitely get those, especially for the mountains!

I saw elsewhere that you are not planning on getting the backsplash in the kitchen.  You might rethink that if you plan to do any food prep indoors as the "rat fur" so close to the sink/countertop/stovetop could get awfully nasty in a hurry and would be hard to clean.

Have fun with your new Scamp!!

Paula

Trust me, the shower is

Trust me, the shower is essential. We have been to places for a week that did not have showers. We were so delighted to have ours. If you do select a shower, place 2 towel bars on the inside of the door. The shower curtain will keep them dry. Trust me, you will want a shower, and when time to sell it, a real selling option.

And yes on the electric

And yes on the electric brakes. I assume Scamp can do that.
