HAM Radio Antenna...

For those that operate HAM radios in their Scamps....

I am thinking of bringing along my Yeasu FT 897 (with the LDG AT-897 plus tuner) in our 13 footer.  I have a Buddipole antenna that has been unused for a few years.  Are there any verticle antennas you all favor?  Screwdriver antennas?

I am interested to know what antenna you are using and how it is mounted to your Scamp?  (Bumper?... 2 inch receiver?)

Also... any concerns about the insulating foil surrounding the inside of our scamps?

Thanks for any input

Used a HamStick 20 M dipole

Used a HamStick 20 M dipole on two end to end fiberglass masts (tree trimming castoffs) that were mounted in a flag holder in the Scamp's optional rear hitch receiver.  It got the dipole to about 25 feet.  It works fine but is of course a single bander. The fiberglass "mast" could also support  a sloper, inverted V, etc.

Screwdriver seems rather inefficient if you have room for a larger antenna at a campsite.  Screwdriver seems to be more for mobile operation, esp when you want to tune on the move.

PS, About the foil.

About the foil.. no worries for ham radio I think unless you got stray RF bad enough, it might even add some shielding.  However watch for RFI from converter, solar charger if you have one, USB chargers, etc.   RFI is so bad in my rig that I pretty much have to run off the battery only and have the converter and most everything else off or disconnected.
