Fuse Box Locations?

Hi All:  Well, we tried to work the water pump to pump some anifreeze (pink stuff) through the trailer today, and the pump wouldn’t turn on.  However, we have our 16 foot Scamp plugged into our house outlet, so should have electricity.  Also, the rifrigerator is on, and the fluorescent light turns on.  However no other lights are turning on and the pump won’t work.  Is this a bad fuse problem?  Can anyone quickly tell us where all the fuse boxes are?  This question has undoubtedly come up before, but with a big snowstorm on its way to Central CA, we are in a hurry.  Will checking the manual next!  Thanks in Advance,

Power

This sounds like the 30A fuse on the power panel. There should be two of them, one controls the AC side and one the DC side.

Possible the fuse on the + battery line usually at the battery box.

There is a cable that does fall out of the converter under DS rear bench, but when that happens you shouldn't have any power AC or DC, but worth a look since it is a well known issue.

No DC power?

Yes, it sounds like an open fuse on the 12 VDC power. The power can come from your battery, the converter, or the tow vehicle, they can’t all be bad. No two scamps are alike, but there will be a fuse in the battery box, maybe just inside the front wall and another at what ever distribution panel yours has. This may or may not be the diagram for yours.  Time to get out the volt meter.

Ongoing Electrical Problem!

First of all, THANK YOU to Greg A and ac0gv! I apologize for not replying sooner, but we managed to pump enough anti-freeze within the water system to keep things from freezing, and our 16 ft. Scamp is still in winter mode. However, we wish to either use it a few more times, or ready it for sale, and the lights and pump STILL don't work. One fuse box is located under the refrigerator (2007 layout 4), and I already changed out every fuse I could find in this location. The A/C breaker switches are all switched in "on" position, on the right side of the fuse box (see photo). So, where are the 12 volt DC breakers located? I looked under the front bunk, and there doesn't appear to be any fuses there, only covered electrical wire connections. I do have the Scamp 2007 owners manual, and tried to study the electrical diagram as you posted ac0gv. While examining under the front bunk, I also checked out the wiring as it travels to the left side (under bathroom/stovetop) and on to the fixtures on that side. Some of the copper tubing seems to be corroding (see photo). Could that be the problem? I know little to none about electrical systems, so really need some help in figuring this out! Thanks again, Lupine

Water pump power

The water pump is 12 vdc and DC has only fuses. You need to use a test light or voltmeter to find out where you do and do not have voltage. breakers are for the 120 VAC only.

Converter power cord

Check that your DC converter power cord isn't unplugged or loose. It can happen from vibration while towing. If your trailer is plugged into shore power and you're not getting 12V, the converter may not be on.

trouble shooting 12 VDC

Have you done any trouble shooting yet? Your DC equipment should be getting power from 3 sources. If you have a 7-pin cable to the tow vehicle that’s one, the converter is two and the battery is three. They are all hooked in parallel. Are you getting 12 volts on both sides of any/all fuses?  The fluorescent light runs on 120 VAC and the refrigerator may be running on gas or 120 VAC. Where do and don’t you have 12 VDC in the RV. (Remember that you have three different electrical systems in the RV, you are working on the 12 VDC internal system.)  If you have no 12 VDC at the fuses, check that rats nest of wire nuts that Scamp is infamous for. Meter in the picture is $6 at Harbor Freight, a test light will work also.

Found the Power Outage!

Thank you kdhandso and ac0gv for your  very informative suggestions!  My husband decided to change out the 12V RV battery and power was restored.  I'm sorry we didn't check that first, but I thought since we had plugged the trailer into our house outlet (shore source?), that the current flowed directly to lights, and all items electrical.  Didn't know even an external power source flows through the battery, showing how 'electrically challenged' I am!  I will still take your advice ac0gv and buy a voltage meter in case of future outages not involving a dead battery!  Thanks again, Lupine

Power outage

Yes the converter should have powered things. if the battery starts to go dead again, check the converter plug. On some Scamps it gets unplugged when you pull the thirty amp cord out of the mouse hole.

Power Outage Cont.

Dear ac0gv and All:  Thanks again for these great tips.  We pumped more anti-freeze through the water system just before some low temps here, since the battery was charged.  See your note about the converter, will have to check that.  Where is it located in a 2007 16 ft Scamp?

Converter location?

I do not know, but check inside in the area where the cord pulls out to hook up.
