Freezer and Microwave

Has anyone added either a fridge/freezer combo to a 13' Scamp? If so does it fit in the current space?  Or do you store/bring a special unit?

Has anyone fit a small microwave in a 13'? If so where and how.  I am thinking of getting a 13' Deluxe, but can't do without those items. (I know, I glam-camp.blush)

I have not seen a dorm sized

I have not seen a dorm sized fridge with a freezer that is 3 way like the original one But never looked either. We used to carry a very small countertop Microwave and set up there when we set up camp. Not very fancy but worked.

Freezers and Microwaves.

Thank you for your response.  Did you carry it in your car or keep it in the trailer?  I also was thinking of a smaller refrigerator with a freezer...I think once upon a time the little ones had a small partial freezer at the top.  But I don't know if they are made any longer.

small

Small dorm fridges often have freezer compartments but only run on 120V so having electric would be essential but same for the Microwave. We carried the Micro where ever it seemed to fit on that trip. they all add to total weight and must be considered in the packing. I am guessing the quality of the ride is better in the car and less likely to damage them  but farther to carry.

13 Microwave

Hey Sandra,

As mentioned I've seen 120v dorm fridges fit in the 13, but does require utilities to run.

13 Microwave

Thanks Greg...did you add it or was it a factory location with appropriate wiring?

Microwave

My mod. Not that difficult and it’s a great location in a 13. If you have an outside 120v outlet from the factory the 120 line is right behind the microwave, if not its an easy run from the other side.

Nuttin wrong with glam-campin

Nuttin wrong with glam-campin....

Are you wanting a 2 or 3 way fridge, one that runs on the battery, or one that only runs on shore power? The Dometic RM2410 fridge has a small freezer section that works quite well.  Its in my Scamp 16 but I don't think its an option on a 13 footer. I suspect it could be fit in one but the installation requirements likely make it impractical.  It does work well on propane only however.

A dorm fridge is good if it fits, has ventilation, and if you only need it when you have 120 volts AC (aka shore power or generator). Plus its inexpensive. But how are you going to keep food cold or frozen while on the road?

Another option is a small portable fridge / freezer that uses a Danfoss / Secop 12 volt DC compressor and runs off 12 VDC and sometimes 120 VAC also.  That includes makes such as Indel B and TruckFridge.  The small ones do not have separate compartments so it is used as either a fridge or freezer, but not both at the same time. Running it on a 12 volt battery you would need to about 18 to 77 amp hours a day to run it.  Power consumption varies a lot depending on if its used as a fridge or freezer, the outside temp, how often it is opened, and if the contents are prechilled. You would likely need to upgrade the battery bank and use a good amount of solar cells if running it off grid. But you can use this type of fridge / freezer in your vehicle forever while the vehicle is running.

You said you are thinking about getting a 13. But you might consider a 16 - more options that might suit you, and its not that much more weight.  $$$ is something you have to evaluate.

Thanks for the input...I would be using shore power for the majority (99.9%) of the time...battery very seldom if at all.  I appreciate your thoughts.
