flooring materials

Hi all - I recently had to remove the old linoleum from my 13'  Scamp because whatever was used underneath it had turned red and the pinkish color had leached through to discolor the linoleum. I have to remove whatever the substance is - it has a sticky feel to it and is a sandy/tan color. Is this mastic? The linoleum was loose laid so I don't think it was an adhesive.

Will sanding remove this, or should I use a gel that removes gunk of all sorts? And before I loose lay the new linoleum, what should I put down on the plywood floor - I was thinking Killz or a coat of paint, but I need to know what that sticky substance is

and if I should use that instead. Thanks for any guidance.

its probably the adhesive. it

its probably the adhesive. it dries up over many years and loses lot of its stickiness. especially if it gets wet.

sanding it will melt it and turn it back to glue and just gum up your sanding pad. you want to get a thin razer scraper that attaches to a long handled stick. probably only have room for a smaller stick though in the scamp. but it should scrape up with a thin sharp blade. remove majority of it then you can sand it to smooth it  bit.

Multi tool

A multi tool with a straight edge scraper blade will some times work on removing old glue.

OK - Thanks for your assistance - I will use the scraper and then smooth with the sander

as you suggest. Appreciate it! Patrice
