Fan Tastic fan and a few general questions

Getting in to the '79 Scamp 16 rebuild, continuing to clean and prepping to remove windows, etc... I received the Fan Tastic fan yesterday and have a question. I've seen a post on here concerning the install, but I'm not clear on what type of spacer was installed.  I think there have been many on here who have done this, any insight would be appreciated.  I would also like to know if anyone has pictures of the interior of a 16 ft  with a type 4 interior. I've searched the site without success so far.  I got under the camper today and noticed that it has electric brakes. The wiring is wrapped around the axle and tied off. I'm not sure that electric brakes were standard in 79 or not.

Here's a pic of the fan in place.

Want to See Interior Pictures

Have you visited  Scamp Owners' Sister site  http://www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com ?

This site not only has pictures of current Scamps for sale, but it has archived pictures of previously sold Scamps.

You could search Current listings as well as the Archive Section to find a list of Scamp 16's that meet your needs.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

THANKS

Thanks David,

I had visited that site often, but for some reason had never looked at the sold section.  Plenty of pics there!

Windows and other stuff

The early Scamp mill finish jalouse (sp) windows are installed with 9/64 rivets. (Not too common.) 5/32 rivets are easier to locate and usually fit without re-drilling. I was able to get them and some backer washers from Granger. Scamp used to list/sell 9/64 rivets on their website but not sure if they still do.

Since you have a 79 S-16 with ensolite you don't have the 1/2-3/4" of ceiling surface to cover up and help out with trimming out your Fantastic vent install. Go to Fiberglass RV website and search "fantastic fan install". You can see what others have done to deal with a thin roof  install. I had to replace escape hatches  in an ensolite trailer and needed to make a trim ring spacer. You can make  them out of plywood or PVC trim boards, which won't rot if they get wet. Someone mentioned that Fantastic Fan provided them with a thin roof install spacer upon request.

FWIW. Fantastic Fan was an independent company with a lifetime warranty and they had great customer service and provided repair and install parts for free. Several years ago they were bought out by one of the larger RV parts suppliers and the name was changed to Fantastic Vent. I don't know how it is to work with then since the take over.

Fantastic Fan

On all my vent replacements on the Scamps including the fantastic or max fans, after removing and cleaning the old mess that is usually there, I mitre an interior frame of 1x2. Then I glue that in place on the interior of the opening. This allows you to butyl tape the new vent and use SS screws into the new wood frame instead of rivets. The trim rings that come with the fantastic fans are made to be cut down with a hack saw or coping saw very easily to any depth you need.

Thanks for the tips! A flooring question

Lots of good stuff there, thanks!  I'm going to request a couple of spacers from Fan Tastic and see which option I like better....

I've been working on the floor today, going to have to replace several pieces including the wood where the shower (#4 interior) was located.  The piece that I have removed is in front of the left wheel well. The width of this piece is about 15 inches and comes about flush with the frame rail. I'm sure that the bathroom floor is wider than this.  It appears that this piece has been trimmed at some point. Since I do not have any of the pieces, I would like to know if this piece should be 15 inches wide, or possibly wider... I'll post a few pics tonite.  BTW, my plan for this camper so far is to at least rebuild the bathroom to the original specs.

Here's a picture of the area in question...

Upper Side Floors

The upper side floor sections on both sides of a S-16 overhang the frame rails to the center. FWIW . The S-13 upper floor is flush with the frame rail on the door side. On a S-16 & S-19 side bath the bath overhang is wider than the cabinet overhang. On the cabinet your depth concern is the distance from the cabinet face to the to the wall for your furnace install. The bath your concern is the shower pan size. The commode drain is on the outside of the frame rail. If your new overhang is too short you can't stretch it but if it is too wide you can cut it off later.

I have a S-16 DX with side bath I can give you those measurements a little later. Also when removing old floor sections do not remove the lower floor tabbing from the shell.

Thanks Eddie!

I surely would appreciate those measurements! I'm being sure to leave the lower floor tabbing in place. I figured this would give me good support for re-glassing.  I was suspecting the shower area had been trimmed at some point. Unfortunately not having anything to start with makes for alot of questions!!  I'm thinking I might have to order up the required parts from Scamp...

Questions questions, will he ever quit??

As I was going around the camper today, drilling out all of the unwanted rivets, I began to wonder about the running lights.  At one time, there were FIVE running lights front and back on this thing.  I'm thinking it would look kinda cool running down the road at night, but would like to know if these were ever an option on the Scamp...  anyone know??

Floor Overhang Measurements

S16 DX

Door side  overhang is about 4.5", on yours the overhang should be the same as under your closet all the way back to the dance floor.

Drivers side: From the dance floor riser to the bath mine overhangs 7.5 " I think that may be wider than a S-16 std, since I have a large frig on that side. From the Dance floor riser to the closet overhang is  45". The closet overhang is 12" The closet floor is about 24" from outer wall to the door.

My furnace mounting in my trailer is 24"-25" from cabinet face to the outer wall which is deep because of the wider frig cabinet. The normal cabinet depth is 20-21"  You can buy furnace exhaust extensions for deeper cabinets, but if too shallow the furnace won't fit. See furnace NT-16-SEQ install inst. for min mounting depth.

My suggestion on rebuild: Build 54" rear dinette benches with 30" isle/ table top. Keep existing closet and build wood cabinet from closet to the dinette bench. I would order a shower pan and build bath around your shower pan. Then build cabinet from bath to rear dinette. Either use your front bench or build front dinette benches. But use your front bench to define the build area.

Yours is a pre-fire Scamp so they won't guarantee cabinet fit.

Hope this helps.

Eddie

The only issue with the 54" benches would be where your old frig vents are located.

Rear Dinette

I looked at your trailer pictures. Your frig. vent. may prevent you from from going to a 54" rear bed. I may have a set of 44" rear dinette benches available and foam to fit them that you may be able to use. The problem is, it will be three months before I can access those parts in Va.
