We are waiting to take delivery of our 13' Scamp. It will have electric brakes and we need to install a controller. I went to the local auto electric shop and they told me to use a Kelly-Hayes Syncronizer for the controller rather than the Takonsha P-3 recommended by Scamp. The guy said he takes the accerometer based ones out all the time and puts this one in ( variable voltage based) all the time. I need some unbiased advice.
I don't know much of anything about the Hayes and the reviews and information are sparse on it.
I don't see anything in the material about the Hayes that is a Wow, that is really a different and better approach. I don't believe the guy takes out all the Tekonsha's all the time, because they have been the main controller for years and I don't recall feedback of people needing or wanting to replace them.
I am still using my Tekonsha P2 from our first Scamp in 2005 and it still works great on my current trailer. Just me personally, I'd stay with the tried and true brand.
