D Load Rated Tires

Any thought on the D load rated tires for the 13" wheels. I'm 5 years out on new tires and have always had C load range. Just wondering if anyone has changed and how they like them. Do they ride any differently or any other reasons to go with them or not.

D Load

This was a big thing a few years back on the Casita forum, but has sorta died out now.  The discussion was mostly concerning 17 Casitas and they are notoriously heavy trailers for a 17.

C load inflation is 50 psi and D load inflation is 65 psi. The inflation difference will result in a much harder ride on the trailer. My 13 Scamps used to do a pretty good job mixing the interior items all over the trailer with C range, I could only imagine what would happen at the higher inflation rate. D load tires on a 13 Scamp would in my opinion, be way overkill for those lil trailers, and not needed.

D

Thanks Greg,

I was sure you would have some knowledge about them. I was tempted to address the question directly to you. I thought about the bounce and rattle factor as I have experienced that as well. If there is anyone else that may have experience with them please chime in. The higher speed rating is nice for a comfort cushion but I never go over 60 mph any ways. My Scamp is a 2013 and the tires are marked 0212 so I plan on changing them out. What do you think about balancing?

Balancing Trailer Ties

Yes, Definitely have them balanced.

Most tire shops do not normally balance trailer tires simply because they are used to having trailer tires mounted on utility trailers.

I would upgrade to the D rated tires simply because they can withstand more load and interior pressure than a C rated tire which hopefully would result in less chance of a blowout (not much price difference between C and D).

By-the-way, I bought my tires at Sams Club and saved a bunch !!!

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Balance

Thanks ManWithaVan

I have never had tires balanced on my utility trailer but it seams to make sense on the travel trailer. I take it you have D tires on a trailer or are you in a Van?
