Cool temperatures and memory foam

Spring is finally here and we are preparing the trailer for our spring/summer trips.  When we got the Scamp last fall, we managed to fit in a few jaunts, but took the memory foam off the bed and stored in the house.  Essentially we took this action based on your recommendations that freezing temps would ruin this mattress.  We are now at the point were temps are on the occasional cool side (MN).  With this in mind, approximately what could I consider a safe temp to just keep the foam mattress in the trailer?  Look forward to hearing from you.  As always, thank you.  Barb and John

Freezing Memory Foam

We have had our memory foam pad in our Scamp for two winters now. I had not heard that it would be ruined by freezing. Here in Maine winters can get cold! A few times each winter temps. drop below 0º F. It does not seem to have affected our pad. Maybe if you slept on it while it was frozen it might crumble?  How cold does it have to be to make the foam brittle? Would you be sleeping in your Scamp if it were that cold? We have slept on our memory foam pad with outside temps. around 20º F.  The  heater was on so inside temps were around 50ºF. Very comfortable in our sleeping bags!

Memory foam and low temperature

We bought a 4cm (1.5 inch) memory foam pad for a king size bed for a price that made it worth a try, on sale at Kohl's store. I cut it to size to fit in the Scamp. It improved the sleeping comfort and it also improved the insulation value of the Scamp foam pads (this is the loft bed in our 19-er, not the seating converted to bed). Over the winter the pad yellowed some, since it was exposed to light and air. Even when it was below freezing, the foam felt pretty much the same as any other time. I have never heard myself about the foam going bad in cold.

Memory Foam Topper

We've had many of these in our trailers and they are wonderful. I now prefer the 8" Memory Foam mattresses that Wally carries to the toppers if it is going to be a permanent bed. While they do get a lil stiff when in storage and freezing temps are around, we've always found they get back to normal fairly quickly once the Scamp is occupied and heated. Never heard of the cold causing these to be ruined and haven't experienced that at all, we've always left them in the trailer year round.
