Complications Of A Used 5th Wheel

So I was sure we wanted a 5th wheel and came across one online but it is a good distance away but then, I started thinking about whether it has the 3" lift or not and if we choose one type of truck and than we want to change, that would be an issue.  I am not sure how to tell if something has the 3" lift especially if it were at a dealer's lot.  Maybe with the VIN it might tell me or Scamp might have a record of what it was manufactured as.

So, that all seems complicated.  Maybe I am making it more complicated than it is.  We would consider a TT if they were either bigger (Casita/Scamp/etc. too small) or less expensive (Oliver Coach).  Bigfoot would be a possibility but seeing them in our area or even close is highly unlikely.

Anyone have thoughts or been through anything with a used Scamp 5th wheel purchase?  We have a van and are looking for a truck but could pick up a truck pretty easy (we live in a rural community) IF we could decide the details on a purchase of a trailer.  Also, if anyone has thoughts on what their perfect truck choice would be to pull the Scamp 5th wheel, I would appreciate that and we lean toward overkill as we have done mountain areas where we were not sure if we were going to make it and that wasn't good at all.

We may purchase new, just not sure about that and that would move the purchase forward more than I think we want to.

With temps in the 20's this week during the day, trying to think how nice it will be in the spring when winter is over!

5er

I bought a Scamp 5th wheel a few years ago with no clue about them. It looked good and I thought the price resonable. I had at the time a Toyota Tacoma w/V6. The trailer was a delux with wood interior which had an unloaded weight around 2400#. I live in relatively flat to gently rolling hills and it pulled well. I had little help hooking it up and after a couple years I got tied of the trouble to do so. I sold it and got a new 16' standard. It weighs about 500# less, it is much easier to hook up, I can be ready to roll in less time and for me less effort to back up. Yes it is smaller and I did like the 5th wheel bed loft. But it takes up lttle space in the barn, tows like a dream and and I am happy with it. I think the most important thing about choosing any thing is: do you like it? If you do, nothing anybody else says will change how you feel towards it.

Maybe The TT?

We have wondered about getting the TT and if pulled by a van, similiar to what we have, we would have an extra bed.  I saw that Trillium sold to a van place, can't remember the name, they show the fancy van camper pulling the Trillium behind and it was very nice but we don't have that deep of pockets as the cost really is staggering.  I'm watching the area for all fiberglass right now.  Have seen some Casitas in the area but haven't went to look.

Thank you for your comment.  I hear so many people rave about 5th wheels being superior in the stick RV world so maybe that does not translate into the fiberglass world?
