Allure flooring vs linoleum

Hi! Patrice here. I am new to trailer life, having recently purchased a 2010 13' Scamp, and new to the Scamp forum. I am enjoying learning through this forum, and  have a question about flooring. When installing the Allure flooring, how do you manage the area under the kitchen unit and the end of the bench seats where the wall curves up? Do you cut/remove the old linoleum and then place some sort of trim? And what about the rat fur under the table area along the wall - will that come out, or does a trim piece go right over it with some sort of adhesive? I like the look of the Allure, but wondering if putting down new sheet vinyl would be easier. Can the new sheet vinyl go right over the old (it seems pretty clean and smooth), or is it better to remove and place the new linoleum over the subfloor? Since I am just learning, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Allure Flooring

Welcome,

There is Allure flooring installs in our Mods table of contents under Flooring. It is a very good product and can go right over the old linoleum. Check it out and ask additional questions.

Yes, thanks Greg! I have read all you have written, but I still can't tell from the text or photos how to handle the curved areas. Thanks for all your expertise! Patrice

Not sure what ur referring to as curved areas, but the allure is simply scored with a razor cutter and snapped to make cuts. As you get a bit of practice you can make straight or curved cuts easily. I use 3/4 round trim around the perimeter on most visible areas. Highly recommend lifting or removing benches and going wall to wall with the new flooring. No trim necessary then in those areas when you reset the benches.

flooring

Hi Patrice,

I've just finished installing a vinyl floor in my 19. It was LifeProof from home depot. It is similar to the allure flooring and very easy to install. I had carpet which had to come out before I began. It could easily go over an already installed  vinyl floor. I removed the benches and covered the floor wall to wall.I used 2 1/2 cases to cover the floor of the 19 although the lower footprint should be the same as a 16. Total cost was $256 for the floor. There were some extra costs with trim, caulking and some water fittings that I replaced. est $30 for the extras. The task took most of a week but that included interruptions and not  working full days on it. I also subscribe to the extended analysis and immediate inaction theory much to my wifes dismay. The links that Greg posted were extremely helpful and I followed the advice whenever possible. The end results were worth the effort.

The flooring can be fairly easily scored with a knife and broken at the cut. I cheated, I had a table saw and a band saw and used them instead. They were nice to have but not necessary.

For the curved corners, I used a piece of cardboard to make a template, then marked and cut the flooring. Under the benches no trim is necessary and between the seats on the floor I used a strip of rat fur glued down using a spray adhesive. Under the cabinets along the kickspace I fit the floor to the side of the cabinet. For the 5 inch vertical space I used scraps from the rest of the installation and fit them together to cover the space. I used caulking to tack it in place. I doubt anyone but me will even notice these pieces, but I had the time so I finished the vertical kickspace.

I'm not sure what your walls look like under the front bunks (the 19 doesn't have them) but the curves can be cut using the cardboard templates and possibly trimming with rat fur. Rat fur is very easy to fit in odd shapes and spaces.

Good luck and have fun with this project
