Add Furnace to Scamp 16?

Greetings!

I am currently doing research, and searching for "my" Scamp (It's out there somewhere!).

I was wondering  - if I find a used Scamp 16 without a furnace, can a furnace be added?   I have read all of the pro/con posts regarding the value of a furnace, but we mostly camp "without hook-up" and would like the option for trips without the generator.  Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated!

Furnace

Hal,

We have a 13 foot Scamp with a furnace.  I do like having it on board, though it is a little loud.  New furnaces may  not be as noisy.  My wife and I are often camping where there is no power available and we often camp in cooler weather.  For us the Suburban furnace is a plus.  I think that if the furnace was not a viable heat source, Scamp would no longer offer it.

We also have a ceramic heater that we bought at a rummage sale.  It is small and effective in a small camper.  The down side, you have to plug it in.

Furnace Alternative

You also have the option of using a portable propane heater like the Mr. Buddy Heater. It is not difficult to tap into your Propane lines and add a hose for the portable heater. Obviously, follow all safety notices that come with the heater and keep a window/vent open while the portable heater is in use.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Alternative Idea

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will look into it, and probably go that route.  But I am still wondering if installing a "factory" furnace is possible.  (OK.  "Anything"  is "Possible" - Perhaps I should have said "Practical")    smiley

Adding a Factory Installed Furnace

Deep within the following post, Keweenawbob mentioned that having a furnace installed at the factory only costs $50 more than having the furnace installed during the original build ($400).

I would seriously consider taking a trip to the Scamp factory if I decided to have a furnace installed in the Scamp ($50 install, what a deal !!)

Hal, since you live up North, it seems you would get quite a bit of use out of an added a furnace. I am sure that there are several mornings that are a wee bit chilly when Scamping in the Spring or Fall. Additionally, having the furnace would definitely extend your Scamping season by a few weeks each year.

We have a on board furnace

We have a on board furnace and use it frequently? We  do however, use a electric ceramic heater much more.
