So my husband and I are trying to decide on whether to buy the 13 with bathroom or 16 layout 4 or 6. We are still young, im in my late 30s and my husband middle 40s, and we want this to be something we can use and enjoy for years to come. No children just one spoiled dog Bella- all 75 lbs of her. I have three crushed vertebrae in my neck so the backpacking and tent camping is getting hard for me. We were at ilwaco state park on WA coast about a month ago and I saw an "egg" and I was smitten at first sight. We did not get to see the inside. But I have been researching the Internet for the past month and I really want a Scamp. So, we know we want a bathroom w toilet and shower. We want portability and love the light weight. We own a 2003 escape with towing package and have towed with this before. We are considering buying a subaru outback for our outdoors adventures and hope to use it for towing our new Scamp- the escape just does not get good gas mileage for long distances. So having said all that, I am open to any feedback. I have read almost every post on the general forum that everyone has put up and I have learned so much. So thank you all for your experience and wisdom tidbits. We have considered buying used but since we are new to RVing we have decided to go new to ensure no hidden issues that we would not know to look for. So at this point I seek any advice from longtime Scampers or newbies on things to consider for our Scamp. Thanks everyone.

13 ft vs 16 for towing and scamping
The 16' has more space. Wanting a bathroom, and having a 75# dog, I recommend the 16'!
Highly recommend the 16. Also, the shower/potty set up wi side dinette, which we have. When under lousy weather, more room is essential. 13's are cute, but 16's make more sense for living in.

The 13' (which we have), even without the bathroom, is small. The bath takes up space, leaving the 13' very small. I think you will find it too small...esp. with a 75# dog!
I have not set foot in any 16' camper. As I look at the Scamp layouts, It appears that the front bath is about the same size on both the 16 and the 13' models.
Speaking of baths, my wife and I looked at a very nice Casita 13 Patriot this weekend. I think that the bathe was more spacious that the baths in the 13' Scamps that we saw at the factory. A bath in a small trailer does takes a lot of space.
If I were to order a new Scamp, it would have the larger 54" wide bed. My wife and I are both 5'10" and our 44" bed is not roomy for us.
Do your homework, and you will chose what is best for the three of you.

We are still looking, too. I talked to a guy at Scamp HQ in Minnesota today and he said the 54" bed is not available in the 16' model.

All the Scamp Deluxe trailers have 54" wide aft beds. The S-13 is the only standard with the 54" aft bed option.

Before we ordered our new Casita,Scamp told us that we could get the big bed in a 16 ft if we got the Deluxe which means all the wood trim inside which in turn adds more weight

Just a shame that a trailer with more room cannot accept a larger bed. Yes its true, that only the 13 has the larger bed, go figure.

I agree, a 16 foot is the way for you to go. I would rethink the Outback though While when equipped with a V6, it would handle the tow weight just fine, a 16ft with a bathroom would exceed the tongue weight of 200 lbs.
I was under the impression that the tongue weight even for the 13' exceeds 200 pounds. That YouTube video of the guy who just brought one home (and was showing a few of the things that were wrong) said he put the tongue on a scale and it weighed in at 230+ pounds with the big battery and full propane tank. I wish the Scamp website gave accurate weights, or any at all... So does anyone know what the tongue weight of a 16' floorplan 6 with no a/c would be? Only upgrade will be the big fridge & furnace, which may cancel out any weight savings on the no a/c.
Almost have my sticky little hands on a 16' Scamp. :-)
