Looking to put in a USB outlet to charge cell phones when we are boon docking in the 13ft scamp. Currently considering 2 usb outlets, outlet and voltmeter such as the following:
Other than putting a switch between the box and the outlet to stop power when not in use, any other suggestions from someone who has put one in? Any other outlet designs or placement suggestions are welcome.
Thanks - Brad
I have put these type chargers in the 13 before and usually place mine on the angle of the rear bench on the drivers side.
One item that I used this year at the Quartzsite gathering was the external battery backup charger.
External Device Charger
Very inexpensive, kept my cell charged all week and didn't require any holes or modifications to the trailer. Also kept my device from charging off the trailer battery. Just another option for folks to consider.

Here's a link to eBay to find this stuff a bit cheaper if interested.
When installing an LED voltmeter, I like to install a switch so it doesn't glow at night, also, it won't draw any voltage from the battery when turned off.
By-the-way, the three-way USB/12V/voltmeter you show from Amazon is really cool !

I see your note with the photos about the detector shut off switch (that you are reconsidering it). I think you should. I would want to know if there is a leak even while the rig is stored in my driveway, and if it is going into longer-term storage I am disconnecting the trailer’s battery anyway (and maybe storing the battery away from the elements).
It’s best to be as safe as possible. The following excerpts from the installation instructions for a RV propane detector explain why the switch is not recommended:
Each time the unit is first powered up, the CO sensor requires a ten (10) minute initial warm-up period to clean the sensor element and achieve stabilization. The GREEN LED indicator will flash on and off during the 10 minute warm-up period. This unit cannot go into a CO alarm during the warm-up period.
Connect to wiring or circuit that CANNOT be turned off by a switch or ground fault protector. Only use UL or recognized permanent wire connectors. It is acceptable to connect the 35 Series CO / LP gas alarm to the main disconnect. The alarm will be off along with all other 12 volt equipment when the main disconnect is turned to the off position. The RV must not be occupied when the main disconnect is in the off position.
Thanks for the caution everyone
.
The detector will stay on.
Our phones (iPhones) have a tough case around them that are also a battery! IPhone stays charged for days!

I have an external battery charger which charges my iphones 7 times before it needs recharged.it worked great for me while we were in Zion National Park a few weeks ago without power. As we drive around in the vehicle doing something during the day time,I charge the ipads in the vehicles usb ports...works fine for keeping our devices up and going

Recently I have been researching small solar iphone chargers. I see quite a few on Amazon for around $20. I haven't bought one but plan to do so before my next trip. Seems like the best options since it will recharge whenever it's in the sun.
i replaced all bulbs with LED equivalents this winter. There is very little draw on my battery as a result. On a recent 4 night trip, I charged my iPhone 6 3times, my iPad 1 time and my Bluetooth speaker 1time. My battery started the week at 12.64, ended at 12.35. I was pleasantly happy with that I am looking at a 13W briefcase solar unit Harbor Frieght has though to keep my battery topped off on longer trips it is $89 plus $25 for the regulator
