Need a new table!

at some time in the distant past, one of the previous owners did a trim job on therear dinette  table. Probably to allow him or her better access to the dinette seating. However, when you drop the table to make it a bed platform, there is no support now on the inner corners. I need to either get a new table from scamp-not available in the wood in my 1999 model-only white or cherry- build one or have a cabinet maker build one. any one else had this challenge? what did you do? thanks for your experience. Philip

Corner Bracing

Here's an idea that might work...

Get (or build) a couple of wooden shelf brackets large enough to span the gap of the missing table corners. Attach a strong hinge to one side of the bracket and the other hinge side to the front of the dinette. When you want to use the bed you simply swing out the shelf brackets to support the end of the tabletop and your problem is solved.

PS: You could imbed a magnet into the side of the bracket to hold it in the closed position under the front of the dinette seat.

PPS: You could also remove the hinge pins and store the brackets under the dinette seats for travel.

We simply added a second leg

We simply added a second leg under the table.  One (the original) supports it at "table height," the second (cut to length) at "bed height."  This is a simple solution, but it has proved very effective.

Re-reading your original post

Re-reading your original post and Greg's suggested solution, I admit I may have misunderstood your question re the "inner corners" of your table.

If you are saying that the table is now too short to provide the support you would like or need towards the interior of the trailer, I can assure you that building a new table is a relatively easy task...and then you can have it extend as far as you want, even beyond the fiberglass cabinets.

Another option is to insert plywood or masonite (I have used 1/4" thickness) into the gaucho seat backs. When making up the bed, this will permit you to canitlever these cushions (at least a few inches) beyond the end of the table.

table

Built my own table. Went to a cabinet maker and bought scrap formica. Just enought to do the top $18. Routed the base by deciding the arc. Groved the edge for plastic edging. Bought a stair railing spindle, for leg.  Fold up hinge for leg. contact cement formica to the sub base. Routered the edge of formica when dryed. Put hanger on and I love it. If you would like to see it I could send you a picture. I could make one for you and ship it. thanks Marty
