I also did not order the dual tanks because my vehicle tongue weight is 175 lbs. I like the idea of the 11 lb, Clear View tank to carry along in the event the standard tank runs out of fuel. Where to safely carry it is the problem that needs to be solved. An even smaller spare would be fine. Just enough to run systems until the tank can be refilled.
I think because of insurance requirements that at RV parks or other facilities, one won't be filling their own tanks. We have gotten propane coast to coast and there was always a designated employee that filled the tanks with propane, and if they were on break or doing something else, we waited until they were to pump it.
Changing out the tank to a composite tank won't save you much weight at all.
The weight is in the propane, the tank is only secondary to the weight of the propane.
Twenty pounds of propane still weighs 20 lbs (or 40 lbs).
