Hello Everybody!
We are thinking of having additional cabinets added to our 1985 13' Scamp. Right now, it has no extra cabinet storage space. After going on several long road trips with three adults in our little Scamp, extra storage would be a plus! We're thinking of having two side cabinets added above the table/bed area, and a long cabinet added above the bunk bed in the front. I think the extra storage would be very nice to have, especially when three of us are Scamping. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation on the number of cupboard doors to have on the long front cabinet. We have the option of either one door or two doors. Is it easier to get at stuff with two doors? Is the long cabinet divided at all on the inside, or is it one continuous opening? Hopefully, someone who has this extra cabinet will voice some opinions on which way to go.
Thanks for your help,
Diane
I just had the long front cabinet installed in my fairly new Scamp, which already had the two rear ones. (I wasn't aware that it was even possible to get more than one door!) There's no divider inside. I think I might go for two doors for better access to the sides of the space, if that's really a possibility and access is your priority. But for aesthetic reasons, I like the one door, and I'll tuck seldom-used things into the sides. I also very much like not having to work around a between-doors-facing too, the way you have to do with the doors over the galley. The opening in the long front cabinet is really short as it is; I appreciate that at least it's wide. It's usually just me and my dog in the Scamp, and sometimes a guest, so we're not quite as pressed for access to every square inch as you must be. I think it'll be up to you to balance access vs "view". For me, the view wins: over the winter I made all-new wood doors, and they're with an artist now, being painted; so the art side is my own priority. Just my 2¢.
