Making that final decision is exciting...and now the wait! I noticed the same thing about it being roomier than I expected. I've only just taken my first camping trip in my 13, so I'm still figuring out the best way to use the space and enjoying every minute of it. Thankfully there are so many clever ideas that people share here that there is no lack of projects to try. That also is a handy way to while away the months waiting patiently for your new Scamp.
We ordered the 13' also. That fits our lifestyle the best. We are tent campers, motorcycle, backpacking, canoe camping. Ordering the 13' seemed the right choice for us. My wife and I both drive four cylinder cars and want to be able to pull the camper with our existing vehicles. The kids are grown and out of the house....well, most of the time!! I have been looking on and off for several years here in New England for a Scamp or similar trailer with no luck. We finally decided to order one. I'll be driving out to Backus in July to pick it up. We opted for the big bed, front bunk model. Just the two of us and the pup, so the roomier bed for added comfort.
Anthony we debated about the big bed quite a bit. The new Scamp we saw in person had the regular size dinette, and we decided that we'd rather have the wider center cabinets than the wider bed, but that's because most of the time it will just be me on the dinette bed - kids on the bunks. it would be great to see them both side by side, but that's just not possible.
I still have all my gear from my popup days, so outfitting the Scamp should be a quick endeavor. I'm looking forward to starting the mods, though. I like tinkering and there's a lot I'm already thinking of doing to it.
Yes, we also will be making changes to the new Scamp. My wife has already purchased the material for new curtains and cushion covers. I will be converting the bunks to a dinette that coverts back to a bunk and the cabinet.doors will all be repainted. As I said earlier, we tried to find a used one so that we could modify and personalize it but decided that was more trouble than it was worth so we ordered a new one.
I will post pictures Greg. Karen is very excited about her changes! I'm a bit more laid back about cutting up the fiberglass bunk base but we really want the dinette so it will be done. We'll use it a few times before surgery begins!!
I still haven't ordered one but after much thinking and talking with my oldest child I think we will need to go larger than a 13. She has no interest in tent camping and the banks are you narrow for more than one kid over the age of 5. This is such a big decision and I feel like I am back to square one! My husband and I have thought about ordering an empty Lil hauley with large windows and an AC system since we don't want to do any cooking in the trailer and plan to use the park showers/bathrooms with a toddler potty for the little kids at night. I was really concerned that my crawling baby and two year old would pull away and destroy the fuzzy scamp interior so we are looking for a fiberglass trailer with smooth furless/carpetless walls.
6 people in a 13 Scamp. Interesting, we have a 16 and it's a challenge and a test of patience on numerous occassions just for the two of us. And that is with a Clam Screen House also in the scope of useable space. I can't speak for other states, but if its the camping/hiking experience you are seeking have you checked out the state park system? They have camper cabins, yurts, probably more ideal for the number of people you are talking about. And the cost? Typically very reasonable. The cost of a state park versus total outlay of a Scamp that will be overcrowded is by far a more credible option, and you get to keep your sanity.

4 kids and counting on more
Egg Camper, Burro, Oliver are all double hull fiberglass so interior walls are fiberglass to name some that come to mind.
