Well, the shop had the wrong brake controller, so it was not put in yesterday. They have ordered the one I want. Next Monday is the new date. The new price is $385.00.
That is frustrating! I ended up having to take mine back in for him to finish up because a foot of snow (that I walked through to get to work that day) had everyone calling the shop with problems and slowed his progress on the wiring. At least there isn't a foot of snow this week!
We will be using the Tekonsha Primus IQ as recommended by Scamp. When I originally visited the shop, the woman behind the desk did not write anything down after I showed her what I wanted. When I showed up they had a less expensive Tekonsha brake controller. on the shelf. This time the owner of the shop was present. He wrote everything down and gave me an exact price and ordered the material. I did suspect when I was bringing the car down that they would not have the proper brake controller.
Thanks. I am dropping the car off tomorrow morning and letting the shop install the brake controller and wiring.

Report back on the success! I need to do this to our 2013 Outback before picking up our Scamp - but I have some time.

do you know which controller they will install? I've used Tekonsha Prodidgy before, very easy to use. I'm sure they have newer models by now.

I have found you don't need a high end brand/model of brake controller. The one mentioned is a lot less on Amazon.
Is this it?
This is a common brand that can be ordered at Walmart.

No, Scamp recommended the Tekonsha Primus IQ, but I'm sure other brands will do just fine.
