I currently have a Honda CRV that I love but the measly towing capacity won't work with a trailer. I'm looking for suggestion for a vehicle to pull a 16' Scamp. I'll probably get one with a bathroom, AC, an maybe large fridge, so figure that in. I'm not wedded to Hondas but I'd like a car that can go up to 200.000 miles (with regular maintainance). I tend to keep cars forever and like to get the most out of them. I like an SUV or crossover and will be traveling with a dog (and gear like an xpen) and 2 cats (with litter box). Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be a Japanese car...open to American too. :)

Suggestions for a tow vehicle for a 16' Scamp
I ended up getting a used Nissan Frontier truck to tow my Scamp 16, but we were strongly considering the Toyota Highlander and the Nissan Pathfinder. There are actually quite a few choices.

I would vote for the Ridgeline with AWD. 5000 towing capacity with AWD. Honda reliability. I prefer AWD over 4wd and RWD of US pickups at better price comparably equipped. .
There are many smaller pickup trucks that would do very well. Consumer Report rates the Honda Ridgeline Very high. Others include the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Cheve Colorado (GMC has one. Can't think of the model) and I have heard rumors the Ford will reintroduce the Ranger. Plenty of choices new or used. They all have "crew cab" models which would have room for your pets. These trucks are what I prefer. We average 20 mpg with our 4 cylinder Frontier pulling a Scamp 13.
Can’t help but notice that you left out the one that gets 20+ MPG, pulls 7500 lbs., already has the brake control, and is USA made.
Ford f-150. As for the Ranger, they are sold in other countries, With the F-150 selling so well I do not see the ranger being sold here any time soon. That story has been around for years. But the OP would like an SUV or crossover, not a truck.
I do not want a truck. I want an SUV.
You might consider the Tesla Model X !
Tesla's Model X is certainly capable of towing a 16 ft Scamp, and with a doubling of the Super Chargers planned for this year Tesla is certainly worthy of Serious Consideration.

Hi AC0gv and all: We have a 16 ft. Scamp, and just bought a new F-150, short bed truck. We really like the truck, and plan on storing items in the truck bed under our new camper shell. However, one problem: when we tried to hook up the electrical plug to the new outlet on the truck, the Scamp rear signal lights wouldn't turn on! We checked out the truck at the Ford dealer, and though the outlet had been installed backwards, it still worked on a different trailer (we had to leave our Scamp behind at our daughter's house). We need to figure out this problem.......I'm thinking we may need to change out the Scamp electrical cord and plug, as it seems as if the plug isn't connecting correctly with the truck outlet. Here's photos of the Scamp electrical plug and truck outlet my granddaughter and I took:

At the trailer connector, pin 4 should have 12 VDC on it, it is the charging line to the battery. Jumping from that to the pin for other lights should light that light. I often connect 3 and 4 to light the marker lights at the camp site so that others can find me late at night.
Thanks very much ac0gv! We figured out the plug orientation, and also shaved off an extra rubber piece on the outside of the plug that may have gotten in the way of a complete connection. FINALLY got the lights to work. Appreciate the diagram, that helped.

Nissan Frontiers are made in Mississippi by American workers. I drove by the plant on the way home from spring break in New Orleans.
I like the Ford F-150 too. My wife didn't like that it was higher to get into and thought it was harder to park. You might be right about the Ranger, but Ford is the one recently circulating that story. https://www.ford.com/trucks/ranger/2019/
