I am the proud owner of a 2005 Scamp 5th Wheel as of 11:00 AM
My question is I have access to a free 5th wheel hitch with rails and if I remove the head it looks like I could center a ball on the plate. It is adjustable and rated at 15K so I am sure it is beefy enough. Can anyone confirm the height range on the Scamp factory hitch.
I am putting it on a 2002 Ranger 4WD
Thanks

Congratulations on the new to you Scamp 19. I also have a 2005 deluxe 19 and love it. Its pulls and maneuvers easily. Mine is not lifted but it does have 14 inch tires for a little additional height. I pull mine with a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4L v6 4x4. It has plenty of power to pull the grades in Washington State. 4X4 isn't necessary for towing but nice for exploring from camp. I have the newer style hitch in the Tacoma that Scamp currently sells so hopefully I can provide info that will help you. I may give you more info than requested but here goes.
Rail height of Tacoma 49 inches
Bed height 29 inches
Bed to top of ball 13 1/4 inches I have mine in the shortest position
Range of holes 3 1/2 inches there are 4 holes spaced over the range
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.

I started to do the same thing with a 16 K Reese hitch. Good thing I had a Harbor Freight engine lift in the shop. That is how I had to remove the hitch from the truck. Even with the 5th wheel removed it weighs a lot.

Thanks for the help. Another member has offered to sell me an unused new style factory Scamp hitch at a very reasonable price so we are going to go for it.
As a sidebar what do you get for MPG towing your Scamp?
I get about 15 mpg towing with the tacoma. Fighting a headwind in the columbia gorge really eats into that, so I've learned to slow down for that route.
Fyi. I am easily able to remove the hitch by myself although it is much easier with two people.
