13' Standard cabinetry compared to Deluxe cabinetry

We just placed an order for a standard 13' with the front bunk.  What we really wanted is a standard 13' with a dinette (available only in the Deluxe) that converts to a bunk and are exploring the possibilities of doing that modification ourselves.  (There is a an excellent post about that modification by RichFree in March 2016.)  Have others explored that modification?

My other question for Standard owners:  The "coat closet/tall cabinet" on a Standard appears to have two small doors.  Is the interior basically a black hole below the lower door?  The Deluxe appears to have a larger door, allowing access to the entire cabinet.  Our salesman (we ordered over the phone) did not seem to understand my concern.  Have folks successfully modified that cabinet to allow better access and more shelves?

13' Standard vs. Deluxe

We ordered the 13, standard last month. Like you, we wanted the front dinette, but we also wanted the option to convert the dinette into a bunk in the event we had a guest. That wouldn't work with the deluxe because there is a cabinet to the left of the dinette making that area too small to sleep in. I suppose you could ask Scamp to custom build that section if you wanted the option of a usable bunk there. I don't know if there would be a difference in cost for that. The price we were quoted put the deluxe at $2,700.00 more than the standard and according to the salesman, about 250 lbs, heavier. As we will be pulling the 13 footer with a 4 cylinder engine, we did not want any more weight. We also didn't want more holes drilled in the walls to accommodate the wood. We had stopped by the factory in Backus to look at the units and yes, the 13' deluxe is certainly a nice looking camper, but we have no objections to the simpler styling of the standard big bed model with front bunks. My wife was actually concerned that she wouldn't be able to improve upon the appearance of the deluxe because of the wood interior. She has already picked out fabric for new curtains, cushions and paint to change the doors from a stain to paint. I will convert the bunk to a dinette that can be used as a bunk when needed. Many owners have made this conversion. It is definitely a doable project. Good luck with your decision.

13' Standard vs. Deluxe

Thank you, Anthony.  We have decided to go with the Standard with the bunks, live with it for a while, and then decide if we want to do the dinette conversion.  We also want to minimize weight (and cost).  Discovering that the wood cabinets are attached through the walls was the real deal breaker.  Do you know if there is room under the bunk/couch to store a Sanipottie?

Yes, there is room. You can order it from Scamp or supply your own.

Get the Deluxe--

We had a 2011 Standard 13ftwith front bunks but wanted the front dinette. I thought about making a front dinette but thought (It will be a cost and ultimately won't be what I wanted)...so.... why not do it right the first time...

We sold the 2011 without carving it up and purchased a 13" Deluxe with the large bed and the front dinette, You are purchasing a brand new trailer and the extra $1500 for a deluxe won't make a difference in a year or two....and....if you don't get it....you will probably say to yourself..."why didn't we just buy what we wanted"

Just my take on it...YMMV

(P.S.) yes the standard below the door is just open space with the curved wheel well protruding into the space
