Extended Travel/Full timing

My plan is to eventually spend more time in the Scamp than at home.   While I don't have much travel trailer experience in my background, I have a lot of tenting/backpacking experience, including a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail when I was in my mid-30's.  The Scamp will be luxury living compared to living for six months in my small backpacking tent.

With that in mind, I've been searching for blogs from people who spend a lot of time in their Scamps. Some are listed under the travel corner menu dropdown at the top.  However, I came across this one, which I thought had some very useful information/photos specific to Scamp living.  I thought the photography was amazing.  I will give a warning  on occasional language used, which was more colorful than my taste, but a small detraction from the overall message. The link is the trip summary, Their detailed blog from the Scamp road trip can be found in the archives for fall of 2014.  The couple travels in a Scamp 16 and nicknamed their trailer the Scromp.

long Scamp Trips

We are planning  a lengthy trip out west, and some of,this information was valuable, but much of it we already were aware of, being Scamp 16 owners and long vacations. Laundry cleaning is an issue but full service parks offer nice machines. We also carry large water containers too.we carry great amounts of food in plastic containers in our TV. Time for the year is critical too, not having to rely on air conditioning.

John, what year did you thru

John, what year did you thru-hike the AT? We did it in 2008. The PCT has now become more popular than the AT the last few years due to the book and movie- Wild. Nothing beats the thru-hiking life though. We recently decided on the trailer life. Tent camping all these years at established camp grounds here in Oregon leads to harassment for us by all the snobby box dwellers, so we gave in and ordered a Scamp to try.   We won't be able to pick ours up until this winter.

A.T.

I was Quid Pro Quo, GA>ME '96.  Lynn Setzer wrote a book "A Season on the AT" that captures the thru hiking class of 1996 and has a follow-up to see what happened to people ten years later.  My contribution was limited to a photo of me crossing the Kennebec in the first edition. My thru-hike was a life-changing experience in many ways.

I still love to backpack.  My favorite spot in Wisconsin is the Whisker Lake Wilderness near the Wisconsin/UP border.  A Scamp offers  a good compromise with my wife as we near retirement.  She loves to day hike, and we hope to use the Scamp to do hikes all over the US.  Even though we probably won't buy/pick up our Scamp until 2018, I'm already imagining heading over to Harney Peak in South Dakota as soon as we get it.  :)

I hate change! (Harney Peak)

Black Elk Peak

The highest point in South Dakota known as Harney Peak for over 150 years, was renamed Black Elk Peak in 2016. The U.S. Board on Geographic Names officially changed the name from Harney Peak to Black Elk Peak on August 11, 2016. This change was in honor of Nicholas Black Elk and recognized the significance of the summit to Native Americans.

Olive, can you stop talking

Olive, can you stop talking in code please? AT? PCT? As a former pilot I can drown you in code with my knowledge.

PCT, AT, CDT.

People that live in an area think everyone should know what is common in their area, forgetting that different people have had different life experiences.

Triple Crown of Hiking informally refers to the three major U.S. long distance hiking trails:

Thru-hiked : PCT-2006, AT

Thru-hiked : PCT-2006, AT-2008, CDT-2009.  If you like a fun social experience go with the AT & PCT, but if you prefer solitude and wild the CDT is the way. Maybe the Ice Age trail or North Country Trail some day?

OK, thanks, in my career we

OK, thanks, in my career we shot the ILS quite often but rarely the ADF, as it was removed for our OS. So we also shot the VOR approach as well.
