Pilot light and water heater maintenance

My pilot light starts briefly, lights off the heater and within a minute or so everything shuts down. I know my way around tools but I am unfamiliar with RV propane systems so I don't know where to start. Left to my own devices, I'd probably try to find an adjustment for the pilot light. Any pointers in where to look?

You Tube can be your friend

Check out You Tube (Atwood Water heater) there are lots of RV WH maintenance and repair videos. My first part guess and fairly cheap part is a bad thermocouple. Second part guess is gas control valve. If you don't know what you are doing with gas issues, get a pro to fix it.  Not giving advice on repair just a parts guess.

Youtube was my next stop, I

Youtube was my next stop, I will probably try to clean the thermocouple with sandpaper checking the voltage in use, and if that fails to fix the problem, I'll replace the thermocouple assembly.

Thanks Again Eddie.

I'm guessing

Congrats on the new to you 5er. The initial issues your having sounds very much like the trailer has sat for awhile and not been used. I think you're on the right track with cleaning/replacing the tc and I'd dissasemble and blow out the burner tube and orifice while I was in there.  Of course, drain water heater and flush it several times.

I'd recommend similar cleaning/checkout on the furnace.

Scamp Hot Water Heater

Light your stove burner in the Scamp to get a good gas flow. This should solve your problem.
