Hello,
We're shopping for our first RV for weekends in the parks or short road trips. We have 2 boys currently 3 and 5. I think I've read everything on the internet that google can find in regards to these 3 RV's so I'm looking for owner feedback on what will work best for us.
I tow with a lifted Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (rated 3500#). I've wired it for 7 pin and brake controller is installed. It pulls really well- I had a 6x12 uhaul stuffed to the gills last weekend- must have been around 4000# and it pulled it just fine on the highways and I was purposely speeding and checking how it handled bumps in corners, etc- solid as a rock. The stiffer springs and shocks must really help.
I think we want bunks for the boys- or at least a wide bed for them.
Scamp: front convertible bunks, smaller(?) dinette that we would sleep on. 7 month wait to order one right now.
Casita dlx 16: Side bunks with a bigger front bath. 4 month wait. I like that I can get a 3" axle lift and bigger 14" wheels which might do better behind my jeep that's on 35" tires.
Rpods: They have them in stock locally. Same price. Roomier, but stick built. The 2 layouts we're looking at have a small slide for kitchen and external storage is nice, bigger holding tanks. The 176T let you sleep on the dinette, kids in front bunks, and there's a queen sized pop out tent if the weather is nice and then the dinette remains set up. The 178 is a queen bed in back, and the dinette is up front- the kids could sleep side by side on that.
We have plans to look at all three next month, but owner input is more valuable than the salesmans!
We have a 16 with front bath, layout 6. We love it but it truly is a 2 person trailer. For us, we would never ever have a trailer without a shower/potty. That saying, with a family of 4, the 16 with side dinette is OUT. Only one person can sleep on it anyway. You would need the bunks up front, no potty shower option. Not sure if the 13 can do this. Check out the Scamp site for layout options for 13's and 16's.
