If You Want It To Work.......

I have been researching molded fiberglass trailers for awhile now and have asked a lot of questions over a few forums.  The best answer I have come up with is that if you want it to work, it does.  I know I told someone that if you "love" the trailer, it makes the "bumps" a little easier to handle so I'm going to take my own advice.  Find the one I "love", well, we "love" and then it will work.  People of all sizes and famlies of all numbers are claiming to not have issues while others seem to.  I see this often with dog breeds as people "love" a certain breed and are more than willing and happily putting up with issues that I would never, ever tolerate.  Too small is relative.  We full-timed in a 24' stickie for two years comfortably with 2 adults, a teen and a 75 lb dog and had everything we needed and really had a good, carefree time.  We stayed for 5 1/2 months in a pop-up and had an even better time.  So, space doesn't appear to make or break the deal.  Just my rambling about "too small".

Know the Features you Love too!

I agree with the love the trailer mantra.  My problem is that I love all the molded fiberglass trailers!  yes  When we went to the "dark side" and had the 29' stickie with everything and room to boot, I was miserable until we got back in glass.

After over a decade of Scamping and a lifetime of minimalist backpacking I now understand the Features that I definitely want in my trailer. Everyone has a different list of what they can live with or without, but knowing your must have list helps to find your perfect trailer, since adding many of those features later is cost, time, or structurally prohibitive.  I.E.  Lots of folks will never shower in the trailer so they don't care whether it has a shower or not.  Some are fine with just a porta-potty vs a fixed toilet.  Some must have an awning, others don't need an awning.  For example, I now know for myself that I must have a full bath. Even though you have to be a circus contortionist to completely shower in the trailer, to me, it is fantastic during a week of boondocking to have a hot shower and a fixed toilet.  There is a great post going on asking which options or features to order on a new Scamp which illustrates how everyone has different features they want on their trailer.

So I'll expand the "love" the trailer you buy to find the trailer you "love" that includes the features you must have/want (or that can be easily added), and if those two match up closely then everything else works out.

You can make anything work!

Snow Gypsy, when we used to travel around the country with 4 people in a Scamp 13', people thought we were crazy.  We were always the "talk of the campground."  lol!  Some people even told us it was like one of those clown cars where just when they thought no one else could possibly be inside the trailer, another person would pop out.  But we were having a blast and it was all we needed and worked just fine for us at that stage in life.

I like to look at the

I like to look at the families that are picking up their new Scamps at the factory.  It's just cute!  Also love seeing someone really excited about an older find that becomes their dream come true.  I think more people are adopting the "less is more" attitude now.
