Hi All, This is my first post on SOI! My DW and I will be empty nesters by Summer, 2016. We have had the RV bug for about a year. Rather than waiting 10 years until retirement, we want to get started asap. But, we will have two daughters in college, so resources are tight. We think a small TT is the best way to start. About three months ago, we really started focusing on FG rigs. We own a 2008 Kia Rondo EX V6 (2.7 liter). Here are the specs for my Rondo: Maximum Trailer Weight w/ Electric Brakes is 2,000 lbs. Maximum Tongue Weight is 200 lbs. The Vehicle Capacity Weight is 1,157 lbs. The GVWR is 4,961 lbs. The GAWR Front is 2,513 lbs. The GAWR Rear is 2,601 lbs. Given the above limits, a 13' rig is our only option. The two non-negotiable items that we must have are a 54" bed and a wet bath. Thus, a Scamp 13 Standard Layout 2 Big Bed fits our needs! However, we would order it with most options. I think this will push the tow weight of 2,000 lbs by the time we add our "stuff" to it. My biggest concern is the tongue weight of 200 lbs. I made a longer post on FGRV.com. I thought I would post here as well wondering if there is anyone towing a combo similar to what I have outlined above. If we decide this is pushing the limits of our Rondo, we will consider a Plan B, but this may delay getting into a rig sooner rather than later. We would consider used, but I assume a loaded Scamp 13' Standard Layout 2 Big Bed will be hard to find since it has only been out since 2014. Thoughts? Thanks, Dean

2008 Kia Rondo EX V6 Tug/Scamp 13' Standard Layout 2 Big Bed?
I just ordered that same one with almost all the options,
the sale person told me the weight should be 1500 LBS.
that give me 500 LBs for everything else.
The Question is for the ones that have the same 2015 Scamp " WHAT IS THERE WEIGHT?"

Congrats on your impending lifestyle change as well. Good choice to enter the traveling the country mode in.
Salesman gave you the top end of the 13 Scamp Standard spec sheet so he's probably pretty close on that with the options you want. The hitch weight is dry, but with one full 20 lb propane tank it should come in around 37-40 lbs.
You should be just under the specs for the Kia, and while probably not an ideal tow vehicle, it certainly should handle it. You'll just have to be careful on how much "stuff" you bring including passengers.
Our 1981 standard 13 Scamp which would have been around a dry weight of about 1400 lbs with our options, weighed fully loaded for 30 day trip on the OR scales at 1869 lbs.

Take the factory weights with a grain of salt. I picked up my 16' a week ago and the Certificate of Origin says the trailer weight is 1,750 pounds. On the way home with a completely empty trailer I weighed the axle at a truck stop using the CAT scale. My axle weight was 1,920 pounds. I haven't weighed the tongue yet so that weight will be added to the axle weight. Be wary of factory weights, only a certified scale weight is guaranteed accurate.

Thanks for the responses to my OP. I had really hoped to pull a Scamp 13' Standard Layout 2 Big Bed with a fair number of options. However, I think this would push the 2,000 lb. maximum tow capacity of our 2008 Rondo EX V6. I am particularly concerned with the 200 lb tongue weight. This would have been the easiest way for my DW and I to get into a rig. My Plan B is to consider using a 2005 Honda Pilot AWD. It is rated at 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight of 350 to 450 lbs. For this reason, I will probably consider a Scamp 16. I am going to contact Scamp to determine the price difference between the 13' Scamp as outlined above compared to a comparably equiped Scamp 16 Deluxe (we want the 54" bed). Not sure whether we prefer Layout A or B. Will also consider a used Scamp 16 as long as it has a 54" bed, wet bath, AC, and a few other options. At this point, still in research mode.
Speaking of research, yes manufacturers underestimate trailer and tongue weights. I am not quite sure why they don't maintain a database of all trailer weights coming of the line and let folks have access to this information.

I have a 2015 Scamp 16’ Deluxe, Layout A. Here are my observations:
I have the side bath with toilet only. It’s functional for me, however larger or taller folks would find it challenging!
New Scamp 16’ Deluxe: Wood interior = more weight.
Layout A: Front dinette, side bath: That side bath is EXTREMELY small. Shower and sink would make it most challenging to use. If anything, consider Layout B - front bath, side dinette. - - Earl A.

Given our desire for the larger 54" inch bed and if we give up on a Scamp 13' Standard Layout 2 Big Bed, we would go with the 16' Scamp Deluxe. I agree with your assessment, I think we would lean Layout B. I appreciate your thoughts!

The weight listed is for the trailer shell prior to anything being installed. We had ordered a 16' Layout A, fortunately we had the chance to checkout Earls trailer. We switched to layout B and it is perfect for us, the bathroom is much more user friendly.
Earl: I got a video walk-through of your trailer and it is very nice. It was the video made by the young lady at the Bandon Oregon - words to that effect. Well, I was 99.9% sure it was you because I remembered, I think, that you downsized from the Scamp 19'. I enjoyed the video because I got a chance to see "real" people moving around their unit which gives you a "true" size of the unit. The Scamp Deluxe, to me, is a work of art.

I haven’t seen the video, but yes, that was probably me. I remember Bex coming around with her camera and asking to photograph the inside. I guess I’m not camera shy and invited her in not knowing where it would end up.
You are correct. I downsized from a Scamp 19. I really like my 16’ but it takes some adjusting getting used to the smaller space and storage. I found lots of things I can do without that came out of the 5er that won’t go into the 16! Yes, I really like the wood interior. - - Earl
P.S. Thought I would share the following picture. I have a space in the small RV lot in the park where I live. The space right next to me is home to a big "stickie"! I couldn't resist this one photo!

Yup, our "Lil Critter" has spent many hot days enjoying the shade from those "big rigs". Pretty nice to have them on the upwind side too when the wind is really snapping.
