Questions prior to picking up the new Scamp...

I live in the Madison, WI. area, and thinking ahead I wonder if anyone in these parts can recommend a place for my future maintenance needs?  Along with that, where do you get your gas tanks refilled?  Thanks

Where to get your Scamp (RV) Repaired

Where do you get your Scamp/RV repaired?

It really depends on what is wrong with it...

For Example; if you are having tire problems most tire shops/Walmart/Sams Club/Costco can repair or replace your tires (remember to get them balanced). If you need to re-pack your wheel bearings any place that does work on brakes can handle the job, also, if you need brakes I would recommend you find a shop that specializes in trailer repair to do the work since they are more familiar with the trailer braking systems. If you are having a problem with one of your major systems (fridge, furnace, water heater, holding tanks, etc) then you should take it to a shop that specializes in RV Repair (i.e.: Camping World, Dixie RV, Lazy days, etc.).

Of course, the RV repair shop is willing and able to handle ALL of your maintenance needs.

As far as where to get your "Gas" tanks filled, I assume you are asking where to buy and/or fill your "Propane" tanks. I am going to post that answer in a new thread so everyone can find the answer.

RV Service Shops Reviews

Here's a useful resource from the Frugal RV Travel website.  This is a list of repair shops that fellow RV'ers have reviewed, similar to many on-line review services.

http://rvservicereviews.com/Index.asp

You can search by keyword, zip code, vehicle type or state.  It's a rather extensive list, so hopefully you'll find a shop near you (or wherever you travel) that has a good review by a fellow RV'er.

The Frugal RV Travel website itself is at: http://www.frugal-rv-travel.com/

Safe traveling!!

RV Repair

This is NOT a advertisement, but anyone traveling from the St. Louis area westbound, there is a top notch Rav repair facility. St. Louis RV works on anyone's trailer! I have had dealings with them, and they are first class. They also have a full show room of parts necessary for trailer life. They did not show up on the list so I thought I would add this.

Do not go near Chicago.  When

Do not go near Chicago.  When you leave Backus head south into Iwoa to I 80 go east through the turnpikes, There will be tolls. Nice rest stops. plenty of campgrounds on the way. I made the treck last oct. when i picked up my new Scamp, coming from SE PA.  Good Luck,  Carl

New Scamp

Thanks for the heads up, Carl.  The itinerary I've laid out uses I-80 both ways. I am hoping to avoid, if possible, passing through cities. I would like to make the Lanesboro get together. It would mean extending my Minnesota stay a week. Hope I can do it.

Backus trip

I made the trip to Backus from the east coast and out west many times. I-70 is a bit longer but much better driving and you miss Chicago and all the toll roads. Once you get to Ohio all the scenery is about the same until you get Black Hills going west. On the way back we came across the Michigan UP and came back down through the lower part of Mich. and got back on I-80 to go home. Lots of things to see and do and plenty of Campgrounds on the UP route. Good luck with your new trailer.
