Scamp 16' Towing

Our 2008 Highlander Hybrid has a wheelbase that's 5" longer than your 2012 Rav4.  It has a rated towing capacity of 3500 lbs.  I installed the hitch (without sway control), brake controller, and 7 pin connector when we bought it in '09.  Our Scamp 16' is a standard with front bunks, storage cabinets over the table/bed, Porta-Potti in the factory installed room, small refrigerator, Fantastic Fan, furnace, AC, factory standard 12 gal. fresh water tank, no holding tanks, class 27 battery, 2 propane tanks.  Loaded for travel, with water: tongue weight ~250, total weight ~2350.  The trailer tires are balanced.  Towing is very stable.  We keep expressway speed below 65 because wind resistance increases exponentially with speed.  We average ~18mpg.

It would be nice if Scamp put 14" tires on the 16' trailers because the smaller tires have a max weight of 1360 each, too close to the loaded weight of the trailer.  We've had blow-outs and separated belts in hot weather, even with good looking, properly inflated tires.
