Bearing service

Hi folks,

I have a 2021 13'. First trip was ~ March 2021. It's now been nearly 3.5 years and the trailer has some 10,000 miles or so on it. The bearings have not had any maintenance. My bad. I've not noticed any issues and have not noticed any excess heat from the wheels. I do check when I stop, but have not specifically done the "touch the hub" routine mentioned in other posts.

Should I have the bearings inspected and repacked or would simply greasing them likely be sufficient. I understand no one can answer that definitively. I'm just asking about others experiences. It's a pretty light trailer.

thanks!

Tom

Edit: after reading more, it seems I should these inspected and repacked. Some say every year but no one says it might be okay after more than 3 years!

I checked with two local shops. One says about $220 and the other said over $300. New bearings would add about $50 at the first shop and closer to $100 at the second. Guess I'll be going to #1. Both were recommended to me.

I had the bearings on my Scamp 13 repacked this year at the local tire shop in my town for $90 plus tax.  As I recall, Scamp recommends a couple pumps of grease in each bearing every 5000 miles and that they be inspected and repacked by hand every 12,000 miles.  Whenever I stop for gas, I walk around the Scamp and carefully put my hand on the hubs to check for heat.

Great tip

Thanks for that input. I will check with my local tire shop where I've done business before. That's a lot less than these trailer shops are quoting!
