Kudos to eTrailer

Because I'll be hauling our recently purchased 13' Scamp with both our Ridgeline and Jeep, I needed electric brakes for the Scamp, and a controller, associated wiring and a 7 way/4 way connector for the Jeep.  With one call to eTrailer (Shawn B.) all the items I needed to complete this task were soon on the way.

Brake installation went very well, really like changing a tire, just a few extra steps.  The instructions provided with the brakes and those available online were complete and easy to follow.  I also need to thank Alan for his input, a wonderful source of information.

The controller (Draw-Tite-I-Command) install was straight forward, and again excellent instructions both written and online.  I spent as much time fretting about where to mount the two relays on the firewall as I did with the remainder of the process.  Be careful where you drill, check many times and drill once!

The 7way/4way receptacle at the rear of the Jeep had LED indicators for lights, brakes, L and R directionals etc, making a wiring check a breeze.

At the completion of the project there was one issue with the controller, when the trailer was not connected  to the Jeep, the controller display showed ".C.", when it should have been ".  .".   After time spent with a multi-meter, I called eTrailer.  The tech was not available, but I left a message, and he called me back on Sunday!  After I described the situation, and we confirmed installation was correct I heard these wonderful words, "Wait a minute, let me look at your order."  It seems the LED indicator light for the trailer brakes was creating a sufficient draw (as the magnets do in the electric brakes) to fool the Draw Tite controller that the trailer was connected.  A replacement 7/4 receptacle with no LED's was soon on its way at no charge, with a return shipping label for the original.  4 bolts, and a few crimp connectors and all is well.

Service like this needs to be commended, so I'm sharing it with the group.

Quadratec carries a Mopar 7 way harness for the Wrangler

that I'll have my garage install...it's made to be put in using a lift. I see that Scamp wants the black positive wire to be 10ga. or greater....have to make sure of that.

If not now, when?
