A/C Leaking in Scamp

A/C leaking in 2013 16' Scamp

We had a Dometic A/C installed in Backus in 2015. When we couldn't get it to cool our local serviceman found the controls had been put on backwards. Simple fix. We should have been able to figure that out ourselves!
But during that service he noticed the A/C had been installed with most of the fasteners (screws?) going into only the fiberglass and missing the wood. He was surprised we had not lost it on the way home. So that is fixed now. Our A/C is now dripping inside during very humid days. It drains down the side of the camper as it should normally but there is a puddle on the floor under it inside. Has anyone had this problem. Our trusted serviceman has unfortunately passed away. Thanks for any input. Jack and Annie

A/C Leak

Two things to look at. 1. There a four bolts above the inside grill that hold the unit to the roof and compress the seal. After initial inst. the seal compresses and the bolts need to be re torqued. 2. There is a small tray with drain under your evaporator coil (cooling coil) to catch the condensate water when the unit is operating. If the drain is stopped up the tray will overflow and water will leak inside. The evaporator coil is under the top cover inside a sealed up box.  More than likely tightening your 4 mounting bolts will fix your issue.

Thank you so much for

Thank you so much for answering.  We will try that.  It sounds a likely fix.  I sure hope so.  We do love our Scamp and have had a lot of great experiences in the two years we have had it.  Jack and Annie

AC leak

Scamp does in fact put the control box cover screws directly into the fiberglass, as there is no wood to fasten to. One owner posted about a leak caused by one of those screws having penetrated the roof. Your repairman may have caused that same problem when he tightened the screws on your ceiling unit. When I replaced our old AC with a new Dometic, I added a plywood mounting board between the inside unit and the ceiling, held in place by the four long bolts that hold the roof unit. I then screwed the cover screws to it. Picture attached.

Disappointment with Scamp

Both by the web site comment form and by email, I have contacted Scamp to find information about the 1982 Scamp 16 we recently purchased. No response at all.
The camper has been heavily modified and we would like to begin returning it to the original design. We have been through the website a number of times and have some idea, but need more detailed measurements and information. May anyone on the SOI help us with information?
I would be willing to add photos to the parts pages for their web site. This would help us and others in determining which items to order. A picture is valuable in making sales. The voice to text editor for the promotional video is terrible. Scamp is "stamp' and many others. Not sure how to edit it, but would be willing to help if I had the correct software to make the text match the narrative.

Thank you for any help!

1982 Scamp information

Two things, second I don’t think any two Scamps are identical, and first, that RV is WAY pre-fire and most records were lost.

Have you tried calling?

Those guys are definitely super-busy. I usually have to try two or three times to get hold of them. It took me two weeks to find out how much cloth they use per Scamp to do their upholstery. Do try calling, and then call back again because the first time you call they'll probably be on lunch break, or it'll be after hours (they close fairly early), or the guy you need to talk to will be somewhere away from the phone. :) Be persistent!
