Picking up my new scamp!

The long wait is almost over!  In two weeks I'll be traveling to Backus to take delivery on my Standard 16.  I'd originally intended to have it delivered, thinking it would come on a trailer. When Dave informed me that it would be towed over the road I decided to do it myself.  I would be uncomfortable having someone else tow it 1450 miles to New Jersey. In a previous post I mentioned lug wrenches with the thought that I would have to stop  at times to check the wheels. Interestingly, Alan told me that the standard "cross" lug wrenches typically have a loose fit on the lug nuts which can damage them. He suggested that I get a socket with breaker bar instead.  I now have a 24" breaker bar and an 11/16"  impact type 1/2' drive socket. I will appreciate any feedback from members who have made that trek from Scamp to the Northeast.

Along The Way

How exciting!  I hope you'll be able to make some plans to visit some places along the route and be able to take your time.  We have always traveled slowly and stopped every couple of hours for fresh air as it really helps.  Also, spending at least a copule of days near the Scamp factory would be a good idea as even the best manufacturers sometimes miss something.

That is a long distance to have someone towing your trailer.  I know I really don't like people using my vehicle or camper, well, basically touching my stuff.  Hardly anyone takes as good of care of something as you would.

Keep us posted.

New Scamp!

Thanks, Cathy

My plan is to spend about 4 days in the Backus area to test the Scamps appliances.  I'll then make stops every 180-300  miles to RV parks .  I'll be looking for 'pull thrus' 'til I get used to backing up.

Travel Corner - Blogs

You know, I could not find the Travel Blogs because I was looking at the bottom of the forum rather than clicking on "Travel Corner".  I thought I would add this as someone else might miss it too.

When we actually get the chance to travel, we have always limited it to 200 to 250 miles depending on campground locations.  That always worked best for us.

New Scamp

Thanks Everyone,

I'll be in Minnesota middle of May.  If all goes well I may hang out up there and extend my trek to the end of the month. If so I'll be sure to stop at Lanesboro to see if there's a space for me.  I've heard of the mosquitoes up there.  I take blood thinners. If they attack me I'll just give them anemiasmiley

Happy trails
