Just wondered if anyone has installed a Maxx Fan in front of the escape hatch on a 16' Scamp (no roof air) and if there was any problem with the fit of the roof mounting flange on the curve of the roof, ie, was a tapered shim needed to flush fit the flang. I'm am currently hoping that the flange will just fit close enough that butyl tape and sealant will take up the outside to center taper. Any thoughts out there?
Thanx, Steve
I seem to recall while I was looking for my Fantastic Fans that they had a curved roof mount kit available.
Good Luck !!
Happy Scamping !!!
PS: It is also possible that I imagined that they had a curved roof kit !!
As Always,
Happy Scamping !!!
I cut the hole for the Maxx Fan today and checked the mounting flange fit. Both the roof and the mounting flange flex a bit so it looks like a non-issue as the the flange will fit flush with the roof when it is screwed or bolted down. A bigger issue is the thinness of the roof - an additional spacer needed to be made to fit inside to bring the roof hole thickness to more than the required 1 and 1/8 inches. So I have made a 5/8" spacer to go on the inside and will update the post after it's installed. Thanks for the reply anyway.

The finished product...
Built a 5/8th inch spacer from a small section of plywood and installed T-nuts into the bottom of the spacer. Then prepped the roof flange with butyl tape and mounted the flange in position. Holes had been predrilled in the roof so that the 8 stainless steel robertson machine thread screws could go right through the roof flange, the roof and down into the spacer T-nuts. Snugged up all the screws, then drilled the rest of the flange holes though the fiberglass roof and installed stainless steel roberston wood screws through the remaining flange holes right into the spacer. Re-tightened all screws to the same tightness and left for awhile for the butyl tape to squeeze out - retighted again to final torque. Removed the excess butyl tape material from the roof and sealed the flange/roof joint and the screw heads on top of the flange with Dicor RV self leveling sealant.
Wiring had been run from the fan roof hole under the rat fur to a small hidden gap where the bathroom wall mets the ceiling and into the bathroom, then along the top of the bathroom wall and back into the cupboard above the stove to meet up with the existing 12V wiring. In the bathroom the wiring can be pushing into the wall/ceiling joint which makes it almost disappear in the rat fur and makes for a tidy installation.
After installing and test running the Maxx Fan I noticed that when the roof vent is in the closed position both rear corners of the vent lid have a small gap of approx 1/8" for about 1" in from the outter corner. Anyone noticed this in their installation and have any experience with it?
So the RV shop says the job usually takes them about 2 hours... hmmm... it took me two days and about $50.00 in misc. materials to get it done from the begining to end...
