Sway Control on Scamp 16
Hi Bill,
We have a 2006 Scamp 16, layout #4, with only a porta-potti in the bathroom/closet, no added plumbing or holding tanks. Loaded weight is about 2440 lbs. We tow with 2008 Highlander Hyrbrid (4140 lbs) without sway control. No problem.

Recently, I researched Sway Control hitches for my trailer. During my research I came across this "Steadi Flex" system from Reese. I really liked the design of this Sway Control system and think it would be a good choice for any Scamp.
Here is a link with more information...

I think the "Steadi Flex" system is a much better design than the "add-on", friction type, sway control that is added to just one side of the trailer hitch.
Let us know what you eventually decide.
Happy Scamping !!!
PS: this system would not work on my trailer, but, I really liked the design.
As Always,
Happy Scamping !!!
Over kill and way too expensive for any Scamp owner. I got a slide brake anti sway hitch installed for much much less. Works great and rated for 8000 pound trailers.

I tow a 16' Scamp deluxe weighs about 2600# loaded with gear. I find a sway bar very useful when towing in windy conditions. More tension with more wind, less tension with no or slight wind. Of course this assumes you have 10% or so weight on the trailer hitch when loaded properly. Most of the time you don't need it but slight trailer oscillations annoy me so the friction bar eliminates all of it. $50 buy a pretty descent sway bar.

Prior to our current Scamp 19', we camped for years with a Casita 17' SD using a sway bar and weight distributing hitch (they came with the used Casita). We had 2 tire blowouts in the course of our traveling at highway speed with the Casita; in both cases the trailer didn't cause any problems with steering to a stop after the event. I attributed this to the hitch and sway bar.
I initially thought in would never need a sway control device, but as I towed more and more, I noticed very uncomfortable sway. While at the RV center for winterization they installed a anti sway device and it has made a dramatic difference. Not at all expensive either! I have a photo listed in other posts.

We are planning a trip this fall and will be going over the mountains , has anybody else used this.

We would appreciate any feedback and opinions on this ...

Yes, we have that exact sway control bar and it works amazingly well. Just don't over tighten it.

I just installed a Curt Sway control it appears to be discontinued by Curt but Amazon says they still have them in stock. Most of the sway controls seem to be about the same. The Curt came with the piece of metal to weld to your current stinger for the small ball. Also the frame ball base is a little smaller to fit the Scamp frame rail. I welded the ball to the frame rail. I don't like putting those big screws in the frame rail. I have only towed the trailer to the inspection station so I really can't tell you how well it works.

After encountering side winds on a trip last summer, we decided to get a sway bar for our 16' side dinette model. They had them on sale for $49 at the RV store. It came with good directions and drawings to show how to install it. I was able to purchase an adapter bracket that is held in place by the hitch ball, so that I didn't have to do any welding on the truck hitch. It only took about 1/2 hour to drill the six holes and install the second bracket on the trailer tongue. The sway bar tension is adjustable and works very well, especially if you have to travel with a full water tank.
The hitch bracket is a Reese Sway Controller Adapter 2" ball size part #26003 or part #21927. The sway control is a pro series #83660.
